USB MIDI express problem in audiomidi setup

Hi All,
I have two new USB MIDI express 128s and nearly every time I boot up my machine, the devices get mixed up in audiomidi setup.

By this I mean, that the computer thinks that MIDI Express #1 is MIDI Express #2 meaning that all the MIDI synths connected are incorrectly labelled.

The only solution I can find is to swap around my MIDI synths in audiomidi setup to correspond, which is not a solution at all.

I also have the problem that one appears and the other is greyed out.

Any suggestions most gratefully received.

I am running 10.5.6 and I have the latest MIDI drivers installed. It's a mac pro quad.

The MIDI Express 128 does not have an internal battery.

Is the MIDI Express different from the MIDI Express 128? I have the MTP/AV and have had the same problem as the OP described.

From the aforementioned article on MOTU's website:

The MTPII, MTP-AV, MIDI Express, Micro Express and Express XT use a battery to back up user settings or save the last state the device was in before powering off.

The MIDI Express XT has a battery. The MIDI Express 128 does not.

Sounds like an Audio/MIDI problem. You might try deleting all current A/M configurations and the preference file for Audio/MIDI, repairing permissions and setting up your configuration from scratch. The fact that the OS sees the MIDI Express 128 every time seems to indicate that it is working but the OS might be "thinking" a new one has been added. I have the same device and this hasn't been a problem. It's been a long time sine the device was grayed out, and AUdio/MIDI was the culprit there, not the 128. They are pretty simple and fairly hefty devices.

I have the same issue lately with my setup which is running Win 7 Ultimate with 2 MIDI Express 128's.
I have to pull the USB cables out the hub and then re-insert one at a time making sure I plug #1 in first otherwise Sonar gets confused with which one is which.
I also have the same problem in MIDI Ox when I check the MIDI devices and sometimes #2 does not show up at all until I shut down the program, unplug the USB cable and re-insert it then start MIDI Ox again.
This does not happen 100% of the time but happens pretty regularly.
I am wondering if it could be a hub problem although it's only the MOTU's that get mixed up?
