828MKII: Periodic Spikes on SPDIF?

Post by nk_e »

Hi.

I have a new 828MK2. When it is sitting idle, I get periodic random spikes on the SPDIF meters. This occurs whether or not my V-Synth XT (which is connected to the SPDIF Optical I/O) is on or off.

In MOTU Audio Setup I have

sample rate: 48000
clocking: internal
optical input & output: none

I also tried muting the SPDIF inputs in Cue Mix, but these spikes occur nevertheless.

3 Questions:

1) Why is this happening?
2) Is it harmful?
3) How do I stop this?

Many thanks.

Did you ever figure this one out? I have the new 828x hooked up to a Lexicon MX400 via s/pdif and I am seeing these random spikes when the Lexicon is powered down.
