Finally listened to the Alex North opening score. Too busy, unfocused, quickly "dated" sounding, not really evocative of mystery, expanse, time, or anything else. Almost like a TV show (e.g. Doctor Who, except that show had good music back in the day).

Although "Also sprach.." is my least favourite piece from Richard Strauss (a composer who I admire greatly), and I tend to detest Viennese waltzes, it does seem that those pieces evoked properly what the film was trying to convey. And this is coming from someone who dislikes the film and especially Stanley Kubrick (except for "Strangelove", but Peter Sellers could "sell" any film).
