It's a well kept secret. I found a link that says "GPO 5 available now" but it gives a 404 error. If you go the online samples and try to buy the upgrade to 5, it gives you the upgrade to 4. Chances are no one has it yet, so no reviews.

I listened to the samples. In the "compilation", it's mixed. There are a few pretty impressive phrases, but a few that sound like 80s synths. Strings maybe a little airier? Hard to say it sounds any better than V4, so maybe the value would be in the new instruments and the range they give us.

The strings in GPO 4 are desperately in need of an update, however in some of the comments I read that the vibratos are "baked in" which is not a good thing.

Haven't received any info on that. I have GPO 4 but haven't used it much except in Finale.

I could be interested at $50 if there's anything worth the extra money.

Hmm, there's another topic on this already but I can't remember where.

I mentioned there that there is some confusion that has not yet been resolved, regarding whether GPO 5 includes the samples from the cello and violin without the "sample modeling" aspects, a slimmed down subset of same (samples only), or samples from maybe earlier solo violin and cello libraries that most of us have forgotten about.

The only thing I remember for sure is that SampleModeling are not allowed to reuse their content that they produced for Garritan before they went their separate ways, but maybe Garritan can?

BTW it would be nice if the undefeatable so-called auto-corrector would stop changing Garritan to Garrison.

Well I was ready to drop a coin on this, however, after listening to the demos decided it was not worth the extra $50 (and what the hell is the USB kit for $20 extra?). The audio samples are less than impressive and don't really touch the brass which they are touting as being so great.

I had the same reaction. In the first sample, there's something that sounds like the intro synth to "Wish You Were Here". But the samples aren't that worse (or better) than those in V4, and there are quite a lot of new features. I might get it anyway.

Since few systems are shipping shipping with CD/DVD readers anymore, this is how you get a physical copy. Many companies are doing this. For $20? I'll download ... if I buy, that is. Not impressed as of yet.

Well, I went for it, as I am not a high roller and generally can't spring for the really high end stuff. I have always been very disappointed with the GPO strings and the GPO5 sections are a definite improvement. My initial impressions are good, and I judge the upgrade worthwhile. I will need to spend a few weeks to really get to know the instruments better. It took some searching to find a manual, and I was unable to find a downloadable pdf-only on-line help. The thing is, I do use the GPO 4 for certain instruments and the ones I use are really good. I''m always on the hunt for nice brass and if that was to be had in GPO 5 I'd jump on it like the Lone Ranger on Silver. But the demos really don't show the brass in a good light and the instruments I do have sound fine. $50 is chump change for an upgrade so I should just probably do it and shut the f*** up. I'll see how my mood is in a few hours... LOL

They call me Mr. Fickle,
And I haven't got a nickel,
But I'm really in a pickle,
And I'll tell ya it don't tickle.

There's a lot of old in there, but what is new is very good. I think a lot of the original string and brass samples are still there, but have been reworked with new programming. All new pianos, string sections, articulations, Penderecki type string effects, and the organ console is way cool...

FYI, a super-negative review at vi-control (paraphrased to avoid disobeying rules):

Strad & Gofriller samples are there, along w/ unreleased Palato viola. Better tonewise than GPO4 solo strings, but programming is LPO-style vibrato similar to VSL solo string in Kontakt Factory Library, and no non-vibrato available.

Orchestral Strings have a richer/clearer sound than GPO4 equivalent, but Small Sections sound like vibrato was enhanced afterwards (e.g. full section w/ sychronised vibrato). No tremolo patches; whereas GPO4 had shimmering non-synchronised tremolo.
