WomenSing Composition 2015 – My daughter won

Post by mikehalloran »

As often as I have posted about my efforts to get my older daughter to submit to contests and performing groups... She is a composition major finishing her master's degree. Well, she just won a contest and accepted a commission! :woohoo:

She has had a few pieces accepted for performance but this is her first actual commissioned work with upfront money and everything. I couldn't be more proud.

Here's a link to the group and the annual competition –apparently, some years they give out more than one.

One of the requirements is that she had to be under 30 by June 1st. Beat it by 11 days. Ha! :headbang:

Next step: wean her away from Logic???

Sylvia, her mother, has her Masters in Piano Performance so I cannot take all the credit. The smartest thing I did as a voice major was to marry a piano major.

Let me put it into perspective: The banjos are mine. The Bösendorfer piano is my wife's. 'Nuff said.

Marjorie gets the height from both sides. I stand a solid 6'3" in stocking feet. She (in the orange), like my late father-in-law and two of my brothers is about 6'5".
