Much as I detest the program, I do like the timeline thing. I still have to laugh that there is a "Finale mode" in that program. Says it all... But this is pretty nice.

Very nice, in fact. Open in a new tab and zoom in. Instruments are indicated by where they appear in the score as well as other areas of interest. Very nice feature.

Yeah, the lack of a timeline was my biggest issue with Sibelius before. If they drop the cross-grade price a bit more over the next few months, I might be in. Would still like to see the vitality of their developer team and commitment to the product long-term.

First: thank GOD. I guess we're not dead after all ("I'm not dead yet!").
Second: MLC, I always thought their "Finale Mode" was designed to "help the poor strays comfortably enter the fold." 8)
Third: I was trying to see what the actual Edu upgrade price from 7.1.3 was and couldn't find it. AND when I entered my serial number their website told me I "wasn't eligible to upgrade." Wha??? Gotta love Avid. Trying to get through to someone to talk or email is a major PITA. I used to like the sales and tech people at Sibelius...

They'd have to drop it more than just a little to get me interested. It would be a good move, however, even (especially?) if it was just for Finale users.

They could make it free and I wouldn't use it. Hate Sibelius with the same amount of passion I love DP with.

Oh, I was thinking more along the lines of getting a Sibelius file from someone and having to collaborate on their terms, or being asked to submit something as a Sibelius file. :-)

For me, that price point would probably have to be under $100, for the cross-grade. If I had had better luck with the demo not constantly crashing, I might be willing to drop more change on the program.

I have had SO few problems with Sibelius over the years and I have some many friends/colleagues in the concert world (including publishers) who are on it so I'm sorry mhschmieder you've had problems with the demo crashing. I've been upset with the lack of Scorch updates (esp. as my current publisher uses that), and the bad treatment of the employees by Avid, and the lack of an update/upgrade for evah… oh… Hey, what's NOT to like? . But, I do think it's a terrific program and I'm hoping 7.5 will be good. I also think we need at least 2 viable options to keep the ecosystem healthy and "honest." So here's to hopin' :?

Mike, I am NOT gonna try to convince you *at all* about its merits. 8) And, while I left Finale in '99 or 2000 I know a ton of people who use and love it.

After pouring buckets of cash into Finale updates for years I finally switched to Sibelius last year (or the year before?) and couldn't believe it took me so long...

To each their own, but for me Sibelius is by far the more musical, intuitive solution. Glad to see it's development continued.

Just a little testimonial counter-balance...

Thanks Kubi I was beginning to feel like a statistical outlier here… :)

Wow, the Finale vs. Sibelius war is even more passionate than the Windows vs. Mac battle. I mostly just resent that one of them chose my favourite composer's name and thus built up unrealistic expectations on my part.
