Sibelius 7 and East West Sibelius Sound Set Project

I'm about to purchase Sibelius 7 and need a Virtual Orchestra to round out the studio. I lean towards EastWest because of the quality of the projects I've heard created with it and its general reputation. But I also see that the Sound Set Project downloads enable EW to integrate with Sibelius. Has anyone tried this? http://www.soundsetproject.com/soundsets/eastwest/

Also, irrespective of the Soundset project, is EW much better than Garratan PO 4? The price differential suggests that it is but I've never knowingly heard GPO. EW Gold is pretty much at the limit of my budget for now, so if there's anything else out there that you all have had success with that comes in at around that price would be good to know about.
Any advice/comments would be very helpful.

I have an iMac 2.7Ghz core i5 w/12GB of ram. I currently run an all MIDI hardware setup and want to transfer logically to virtual.

Thanks

Check out some demo tunes made by each, there'll be a few on each website. EW is miles ahead of GPO. In fact the new samples that come build in with Sibelius 7 are far ahead of GPO (IMHO). However EW uses it's own software (Play) which isn't great, there have been numerous threads over the years about problems with Play.

Having said that, I have Sibelius 7 , EW Orchestra and the EW Sound set and so far it's worked great for me, some of my Sibelius charts sound really good when played back by the EW orchestra.

Wow.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT LINK.

I just bought Sibelius and am missing the integration of EWQL that Notion3 has. This is extremely helpful. Thanks.

Thanks, guys. I'm very much looking forward to leaving the wires and boxes for the virtual world.
BDR: That is very encouraging. The things I read about Play always push me away, but I've had balky equipment and connections in the past and eventually overcame them - not without some thrashing about, though.
Again, thanks, always appreciated.

NK_e: Glad I could help - its a good feeling.

Can I suggest you give a listen to Albion from SpitFire Audio?

Not nearly as extensive as EWQL Platinum, but a beautiful set of sounds ...

Thanks, NK. The demos were impressive - and I listened to them on the Mac's speakers and then on not so well positioned monitors and they were good. Certainly in line with what I need.
I then checked to see if Albion is one of the Sound Set Projects developers and unfortunately its not. At least not yetl

So, since I'm trying to get as much bang for the buck as possible, I'll lean towards a library that can work with Sibelius 7. But its in the running because more knowledge always influences the budget decisions.

Great info, thanks again.

You know, they are a small company and pretty responsive. I'll drop them an email to see if they have any plans to become one of the participants.

Glad to return the favor. Good luck.

Hi.

I dropped Christian over at SpitfireAudio a note. Reply below...!
Hi George,

This is very much something we're interested in. Thanks for the tip.

.... and of course for your kind words, keep your eyes on Albion II, in my opinion it's the most beautiful sounding library yet produced.... a lofty claim, but wait 'til you hear it.

Best.

Christian

Christian (Paul, et al),

Hi. I recently purchased Albion. solo strings, and other SpitFire Audio instruments...and I love 'em. Beautiful pieces of kit they are!

I'm an older guy who is new to "proper" composing and am spending a lot of time going back and learning the basics. (Am currently studying theory and composition formally, etc.) I've recently started using scoring programs to write. I've used Notion3 (which allows the use of EWQL SO and Miroslav sounds and incorporates articulations directly in the program) and I've started to use Sibelius7. It would be great if I could use Albion sounds and articulations in a similar way, i.e., I could select Albion as an instrument an have ready to go preset playback configurations and multis, custom instrument satffs etc.

Anyway, that's a long preamble to asking if you know about the Sound Set Project:

http://www.soundsetproject.com/

And whether or not you might consider working with these folks to bring a Sibelius sound set to market. (Again this isn't about integrating the actual library, just making preset templates and such available.)

Sorry if I rambled on a bit.
...exciting indeed.

I had couldn't get Sib 7 to use EW play effectively. It took 35 minutes to load in an orchestra. I synced it through an IAC into Plogue Bidule and used gold edition and Kontakt 4. It took 4 minutes to load. Sib 7 is not fun any more and the track record for sold MIDI software companies is 0. Let me know if you have solved the play load in problem.

I am having problems loading the EWSO Gold sounds in Sibelius 7.1.3!!!!
I have followed all of the instructions in the manual .... is there a way to work around it and get the sounds into Sibelius? I really need these sounds to load so I can move on.

Did you purchase this? Again my version of Play takes forever to load in. East/West could not solve the problem.
