Mike H., I appreciate all of your help, and the contact info. I've lost so much time on this so far though, that my faith is low that it is fixable in a reasonable amount of time, so for now I am going to have to pass on contacting their phone support, but maybe later.

I need to focus on productivity, and a tight schedule for wrapping up a local heavy metal album. It was frustrating enough that Steinberg never sent email confirmation of my many attempts to demo Dorico, so I could never download or try it out. If I have any rush jobs in the short term, I'll just use Notion for that.

Indeed, Mark. It's about productivity and Finale is clearly failing in that regard. Sad.

MM no longer offers phone support. Otherwise, what took a week could have been done in 15 minutes.

You have to go to the link I posted earlier and Submit a request.

You know, that's a real problem with tech support people in general. I guess they're so used to clueless people calling for help that they assume all callers are clueless. It's so frustrating to go through all the logical troubleshooting steps and then break down and call tech support (because all else has failed) only to get some tech support person who won't accept what you tell him/her about what you've already tried (sometimes multiple times).

Did you reboot your computer?
Yes, that's the first thing I tried.
Well do it again.
I've rebooted like 6000 times since the problem started.
Well do it again.
OK, ok, rebooted.
Launch the app.
OK.

25.4 Released today with MusicXML 3.1 support

Post by mikehalloran »

MusicXML 3.1 is supposed to be a major update.

The next update in the Finale Version 25 series, Finale v25.4, has been released today (6/29/2017). This update is a free maintenance update for all owners of Finale v25. Finale v25.4 focuses on increasing stability for Finale and setting the groundwork for the future. Work has been done to remove some troublesome program errors such as:

(Windows) An issue that would prevent authorization from working properly when opening files from certain locations on your computer.
Setup Wizard related crashes.
(Mac) Crashes that would occur when using COMMAND+OPTION+SHIFT key combinations.
(Windows) Crashing when using the Expression tool that would necessitate a reset of preferences.
(Windows) Crashing due to numerous installed editing plugins.
(Windows) Crashing related to Pro Tools 12 DLL conflict.
and more!

This update also includes some new functionality such as support for MusicXML 3.1, rounded corners on enclosures, and the ability to prevent showing naturals when cancelling key signatures between sharp and flat keys.

For more details, please check out our Read Me and Release Highlights article. For help getting the latest version of Finale, please check out this article. Also, we have a blog post about the release too!

Wowza, thanks for the heads-up -- for some reason, I didn't receive a notice of this update from Make Music.

THIS UPDATE FIXES MY PERSISTENT CRASHES!!!!

This is the first time I have been successful in launching Finale in almost a year!

No problems launching the latest Finale update on my new iMac, after cloning my old system drive via Time Machine.

I simply had to re-authorize on launch, and verify the details as accurate. Easy peasy.

There's a new 25.4 maintenance release today that adds support for Music XML 3.1.

EDIT: My current installation identifies itself as v25.4.0.155 from 29 June 2017, so I suspect today's email is about that one rather than an even newer maintenance update.

I'm tired of wasting time looking up passwords, logging into websites, and navigating to releases I am already up-to-date with. It's more and more common for vendor emails to go out WAY after the actual update. It gets very confusing -- at least for people like me with almost 1000 apps/plugs. :-)

The latest update from the past few weeks, seems to address way more issues than the previous three updates, so might be worth a try for those who have so far had issues with v25.

Please note, however, that this does not seem to be true of the video-syncing category that heavily affects several people here, but I'm not really set up to test that easily, so it still might be worth a try.

For the record, the current version is v25.5.0.259, which was prepared by the vendor on 10 October but I think maybe not released (or maybe not noticed by me) until 11 November. Usually there will be a lag while the vendor tests the final build, so I think 11 November was the release date.
