Headphone. Mix Help

Post by mdslammer »

Hi Guys,

New to the forum. Nice to be here.

I was hoping for some assistance regarding headphone mixes.

I'm running W10 64bit / Nuendo 7, MOTU 24 I/O.

My buddy is running Pro Tools on a Mac. He's able to give 4 or 5 musicians each one their own small 16 channel mixer.

He has everything that's being recorded in his DAW assigned to each individual channel.

So each musician has his own mixer and can adjust whatever they want to hear in their own headphone mixes. Very cool.

Is there a way I can do this with my setup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If I recall correctly, you can get 8 stereo (or 16 mono, using pan pots) mixes from the hardware CueMix mixer built in your MOTU PCI card which can be fed from analog outputs to headphone amps for individual custom mixes. The engineer has to set up each mix, which can include live inputs from CueMix and/or recorded tracks(or live inputs) monitored via your DAW.

Another approach... your friend may have something like this for each musician:

Individual monitor mixers like the Behringers can be fed via ADAT outputs of your 2408, up to 16 (that's 8 pre ADAT port x 2). You would also need:

Hello HCMarkus,

Thanks for taking time to reply and the info. Yes, I'm checking into the exact gear you mentioned. I will look into the CueMix as well.

Much appreciated.
