PCI324 Meters pegged no sound?

Post by chrismilne »

So after originally having no sound out of stupidity with connections, i used this old 2408 in Windows 7 32 bit fine for about 2 days, today when i went to use it the meters show completed pegged (in more than one DAW) but there is no sound. The light on the front of the 2408 blinks. THis happens even when i turn the 2408 unit off or unplug all inputs from it. I tried a few different firewire/audiowire cables and that also didn't help. Any ideas why this would happen with no system changes??

It is a PCI slot and not PCIx, right? If you don't know, look it up and verify.

PCIx cards are backward compatible with PCI but the reverse is not true. A PCI card in a PCIx slot can fry the card, fry the motherboard or both.

The 324 is PCI only. MOTU made the 424x — I see these on eBay still.

Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is to reseat the card and see what happens.

i guess it just chose to die after sitting for so many years, then working for a few days...weird.

I tried to reseat it with no luck, even tried another computer (that it also worked for a day or two on last week) and i have the same issues. With the rack plugged in or not the input meters show like a feedback loop where the meters are pegged :(

Hmmm... sorry to see that. Although you can use another 324, 424 or PCIx-424 (424x) card to replace it, I'd be on the lookout for the 424x. Besides being both PCI and PCIx compatible, MOTU discontinued the 424 when they introduced the 424x in 2003. In addition, the 424 series has a version of CueMix.
