828mkII on Win7 x64: Force 48k output?

Post by Tox »

Hello,

recently I've bought an 828mkII to replace my Delta 1010LT. In terms of sound quality I'm quite happy, it definitely sounds better than the 1010LT, but there's one annoying thing I can't get fixed:

I have everything setup for 48k output, but had problems with apps forcing the 828 into 44.1k. For most I could solve it by changing the output mode of all playback and recording devices in Control Panel -> Sound. But then Firefox comes along... if a website outputs sounds (e.g. WhatsApp) it will still force the 828 into 44.1k and whatever I do, I can't stop it. When listening to music in 48k this is really annoying. I've also disabled the on-board audio driver (not possible through BIOS, tho), but the problem persists and every time it does that all playback/recording devices are set back to the default 44.1k output mode...

Is there anything else I can do to force Windows into 48k entirely?

Thanks in advance!

This is precisely why I disable "MOTU Audio Wave" (NOT MOTU Audio - that's the driver) and use Voicemeeter instead as the Windows Default Playback device, using it as the go-between from my Windows apps (like Firefox) and the MOTU box (Voicemeeter's A1 output set to MOTU Audio ASIO so it adopts the same buffer settings).

The "Audio Wave" drivers force an internal hardware-level reset of the sample rate when that driver set encounters a different sample rate, rather than perform a sample-rate conversion. Voicemeeter's SRC is very good - certainly adequate for watching videos and using media players!

Two flavors are available, the regular Voicemeeter, and Voicemeeter Pro "Banana".

I have a ton of videos in a playlist on my channel discussing various uses for Voicemeeter, if you want to delve deeper into its possibilities. See link in my Sig.

Fantastic! You can even set the default sample rate in the menu "System Settings/Options" that it will SRC everything incoming to.

Enjoy!
