Windows 10 + AVB Ultralite via Ethernet & USB3

Post by Cassiopea47 »

Dear all,

I've purchased an Ultralite AVB but I'm experiencing two main problems:

1. Ethernet connection to Windows 10 doesn't work.
I've tried with friend's avb, with my own, with other windows 10 laptop. No way. I've digged a bit into the forum and documentation and there's no clear informations about that.

2. Connecting to USB 3.0 causes crashes on Ableton Live and other software and slow down any musical software using the MOTU Asio drivers.

Could you please point me out in the right direction?

Thank you

Travis from MOTU just announced a new AVB driver update as of Nov. 1st.

That might fix some of these things.

Thank you Terry,

installed and tested:
1. compatibility issues with USB 3.0 seems solved, no crashes, no slow down with any sequencer.

2. The AVB Ultralite is now recognized by Discovery App when connected to the ethernet cable but there is no way to use it inside any DAW software like Ableton Live for example

Thanks.

Have you tried using it within AudioDesk 4? This is MOTU's free DAW for use with their hardware. Being able to access (of failing) AD4 should help diagnose your Ableton issue.

No audio output with AD4 too, the software recognizes the AVB connected via Ethernet but no sound coming out.

When AD4 startup, with MOTU connected via Ethernet and visible in the Discovery App, this error came out

"AudioDesk has encountered an error.

Internal error, an unknown driver was specified.
(MotuAudioSystem Mas MasDriverMgr.cpp, 98 [33:0])"

I'm interested in other findings about USB3, especially using the Intel extensible host controller (xHCI). I have tested 3 different laptops, quite powerful ones (i5 dual core to i7 quad core) and optimized for audio, and with all I experienced extensive crackling at any latency setting with moderately heavy projects. Totally unusable. I've tested all driver versions up to the latest one. I'm thinking of selling my Ultralite AVB!

sorry i don't have a fix for you but i can say nothing but trouble over here with windows 10 and motu AVB......if not daily then weekly, i loose connection with the motu device via web browser and the sound cuts out........motu tech support is stumped and stopped responding to my email update asking for guidance, the guidance i got was not beyond basic as in what browser are you using.....too bad.....

right now i say do not buy......but will go back one more time to motu......if not solved it's on to RME

Be careful if you're using RME with DP9.1. They are incompatible at the moment. MOTU is aware and hopefully working it. DP9.0 seems to work ok, but I generally had sluggish response in DP.

I may be wrong but isn't AVB just for device to device not computer to device?

For Windows, yes. But you do get to use network features when the device is connected to a network and being used as an interface, such as remotely-controlling settings.

Discovery App actually detects my 624 much quicker when connected with ethernet versus USB only.
