Motu Audio Express & Motu 896 MK3 crackling Noise

Post by micha-ilm »

Greetings!

I've expirienced some real pain with my Motu interfaces.
From time to time(4-5 times/day) I can hear a really loud crackling noise through windows audio.

This does not affect the ASIO-Performance!

It happens on Windows 7, 8 and 10 (64bit).
It happens on all of my PCs and notebooks.
It even happens if I connect the hardware through an extra PCI-USB-Card.

Since I use a wide spectrum of hardware (2 desktop PCs and 2 notebooks) and the issues occures on all of my machines, no matter which motu-device or OS, I have no idea how to get this solved.

The issue exists since the beginning and no driver update solved it.
The only "fix" is to restart the device through the windows device-manager.

Any Ideas/Suggestions?

Anyone? :(

Official MOTU-"Support" couldn't help me either.

SOLVED: Motu Audio Express & Motu 896 MK3 crackling Noise

Hi,

I experienced the same thing when connecting a MOTU 4PRE and a MOTU Audio Express via firewire into my PC.

When I opened the MOTU audio console, I noted that the master clock source was the Audio Express (which appears in the second firewire slot of my PC add on card). Since the 4Pre appears first, I changed the master clock source to be 4Pre Internal and voila.... no cracks or pops.

Find that if I power on the devices in order (4Pre then Audio Express), the audio console will correctly show the 4Pre as the master internal - otherwise, I end up having to change it manually.

This worked for me... don't know if it will for you.

Mike
