Ultralite mk3. FW does not get recognized. USB works. Win 7

Post by eikido »

Hi.

I just got my motu ultralite mk3 and when i connect it with firewire, it won't get recognized. I've tried with and without the supplied AC adaptor.
I did as the manual wrote, turn of everything, connect, and then turn on computer. After, turn on motu.

USB works fine though.

The ultralite powers up though when connected to firewire without supplied AC adaptor. Windows 7 just doesn't see it connected, not even a yellow mark in the device manager.

I'm using:

windows 7 64 bits professional
Motherboard: Asus sabertooth x58
intel i7 950
i'm trying the motherboards internal FW chipset which is a via vt6308p

Regards

Are you certain that the motherboard's FireWire port works properly? Try connecting a different FireWire device.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Hi 1nput0utput

I'm not sure if the FW port works and i don't have another device to try. I just came to work and tried the motu here and it works! So there is clearly something wrong with the computer back home and not the motu.
Darn because its only 4 months old with quiet a good motherboard.

I know its enabled in the BIOS because i checked it several times. Even disabled and enabled. Also, I usually configure the bios to work best as a DAW.

Also, the AC adaptor got really really hot when i tried it together with the FW connection yesterday on my computer. Right now when i try it at work, its not getting hot at all after 10 minutes.
What could that be?

Edit: Its getting warm at work too after a while. Is it supposed to get really really hot? I know that i don't need the AC adaptor when connected to FW.

I just got back home and tried it again.
Still doesn't work.

I changed the drivers of the firewire in the device manager.
Still won't work. Tried all four including the legacy fw drivers.

Anyone?

I connected my camcorder and it worked.
Any clues? So i can connect a camcorder but not the motu. But the motu works on another computer.

Edit: I tried the motu after the camcorder and now it works.
Thats really really weird.

The newest MOTU drivers don't appear to uninstall completely, so:

Switching from USB to FW on mk3 devices:

Try going into device manager, clicking on "show hidden devices", then uninstalling all references to MOTU and all grayed out USB devices that are of "Not Plugged In" type status. If it asks you if it should uninstall the software, click OK or YES.

Now uninstall the MOTU Hardware Drivers from Control Panel->Programs and Features

Reboot

Make sure your FW card is using the legacy drivers. If it isn't, make it so, then shutdown the PC.

Connect your mk3 device to the FW port.

Reboot.

Install the MOTU drivers.

If the previous didn't work, after manually uninstalling the drivers, kill the MOTU entries in the registry, then try again.
