I believe that the issue is Windows 10.

The latest 4.0.6.6814 driver works well with Windows 10 64-bit.

There is however an issue with TI Firewire cards that worked with older (motherboard) chipsets, which reportedly no longer work with X99 and Z170 boards. People are still investigating this, but I can verify from personal experience that a PCIe card with the LSI FW634 chip is working with the MOTU 828 FW MkII.
