PCI-324 Hardware incompatibilities - important comments!!!
by Melkor » Tue Dec 04, 2007 2:18 am
To ALL PCI324 users!!!
Many questions\problems on this forum are about PCI324 incompatibilites with new hardware. I spent more time trying any motherboards\CPUs workable with PCI324 for my home studio. (I'm boss of computer firm and I can do that
)
PCI-324 works FINE on my ASUS P5WDG2-WS PRO (intel975 chipset)
, absolutely NO problems/errors. On i945 - also fine. Maybe all problems - with new intel southbridges (ICH8, ICH9)? On i945 and i975 southbridge is ICH7. I tested any motherboards on i965, includes intel DP965LT (rock stable, but not for MOTU...
), also on new intel chipsets (e.g. 31,33,35) - no "MOTU workable".
AND!!! PCI324 works fine on "ich7" motherboards with absolutely ANY CPU - from intel Celeron420 (low-cost) to Core2quad6600 (great). My system running on quad6600@3,0Ghz with 4Gb DDR2 on Intel975p chipset, and PCI-324 + YamahaSW1000XG works fine.
Sorry for my English - i'm from Tula - RUSSIA.
Best regards - Roman (aka Melkor)

hi,can you please tell about my proble regarding PCI324 ?
The problem is--------I am using pci 324 WITH NUENDO 3 . To get almost zero latency , I always use to monitor inputs through PCI 324 cuemix console and NOT throgh Nuendo. But a strange problem is coming that, when I open cuemix console, select input and outputs and ON the cuemix console IT IS CRASHING and some TRRRRRRRRRRRR noise is coming. But if I close the cuemix window keeping it ON as it is, the noise goes off and I can hear the monitoring inputs through whatever outputs very clearly.
I am using AMD Athlon with 1 GB ram.
Please tell how to overcome this?

Thanks! Keep the test results coming!

I'm very interested in this subject as I have 2 PCI-324 cards and the $300 they want for a 424 is preposterous!
I've tried them on my G33 based board and no go. All the talk on the internet about 3.3V vs 5V PCI slots is not correct. These new boards definitely DO support 5V cards so that's not the problem....

sorry - I can`t completely help you, because I`m a Sonar user and don`t know Nuendo tips and tricks...
but maybe problem is on you pci324 console or cuemix settings. Check them once more, or place screenshot here for analyse. Sounds like you have signal "loop" (in- to out- to in etc...) on one (or any) of your channels. Good luck!

yes, G33 and many other NEW Intel chipsets DON`T work with PCI324.
If you need mostly advanced motherboard with quadcore and pci324 support - use i975.
If you don`t need overclocking and more other advantages but need stable instrument for flawless work - use i945 (or any simple, not "hi-end" on i975).
New Intel chipsets are VERY good, but - we can`t use them with our old (but very good, too!!) PCI-324. No way, I think....

i965 is very good but NOT compatible with PCI324. For other MOTU cards - maybe workable (but someone says here about PCI424 not works too...).
For any firewire products - they are "chipset-independent" and may have problems only with firewire-controller chip.
UPDATE!!! PCI324 may works fine on G31 Intel chipset motherboards too- because they based on G31+Ich7 pair. Some tests coming soon (I haven`t any free time for tests now - sorry
) Maybe someone people take this work and post here?
To ALL!!! Maybe made this topic "sticky" and convert it to "unofficial compatibility list" for PCI324? I think this info is actual and important for many of us - old(but good!)PCI324 users.
Mr.Moderator, what about this idea??

PCI324 and Intel D946GZIS
by snake_irc » Thu Feb 14, 2008 6:47 am
I have a Motu PCI-324
It doesn't work me in my new Intel D946GZIS
It not even recognizes it as new hardware
Is this card compatible with that motherboard?

Well... many days and months later....
on intel P43 chipset our "old-and-discontinued"PCI-324 works FINE!! Tested on Gigabyte EP43-DS3 motherboard.
If anybody still use this card - may be this info is for you.

Melkor,thx for ur sharing,
I now own a new set of computer with 324 working perfectly.
It is Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H + Core i3 530,
u mentioned that the P55 can work, I thought H55 should also work,
And it surely does!!!
I came from Taiwan, btw
