Metal Guitar God 2013 Contest Entries

Post by crduval »

Hi all;

I entered Toontrack's Metal Guitar God contest for fun, and thought that maybe others on the forum might have done so as well. If so, share a link to your entry! If not, grab your axe, register and start shredding!

Entrants have to record a short guitar solo over a clip from a Periphery song called "erised". It is an unusual cord progression; BbMinor - Db Major - E Minor - G Major, so it was fun to try to come up with something melodic that worked.

Here is a link to my entry (done in DP of course);

http://www.toontrack.com/metalguitargod ... try/609610

Note that entries have to be uploaded as videos, so if you (like me) do not have video capabilities, you can take your soundtrack into iMovie and create something, then share it as a movie...

Horns up! :headbang: :headbang:

Good ol' "rising diminished progression". One of my staples. The alternating qualities is a nice touch though. Damnit! Wish I played guitar! Can a keyboardist enter these things?

Maybe you should pull a Jan Hammer and enter and see if they can sniff you out? You might get disqualified, but it would a hoot if you could fool them. Having been a judge for contests, I would never enter them. It's a lot like that saying about you don't want to see how laws or sausages are made...

Damnit, that's a great idea! If I had an ounce of time, I would, but I've got way too many other projects going on! CD release concert, forming a new progrock band (I'm crazy), day job, gf, private contracting... the list goes on.

I've had enough luck with Shreddage and Strawberry Electric, I wouldn't mind throwing out a few licks, though I'd probably prefer to pimp out a B3 until it's unrecognizable. Still, not gonna happen with my current schedule :(

...next time.

But funny thing is, yeah, I'd never dream of entering a keyboard solo competition, but the idea of making meat of a bunch of shredders sounds like hoot!

Hey Prime a few keyboard players did submit entries. Bass players too. I don't think there were any horn players though, that would have been fun to hear.!

Eh, I'm a bit rusty on the trumpet. I play it live on a few tunes, but it would be a disgrace to enter a competition with it.
