Wow. This is really nice. I especially appreciate your concept of and use of the 'Atmospheres' portion of your site to support the release. For one, I enjoy the sound design in each one. Secondly, I think specifically featuring the "'basic soundscape that inspires each of the pieces on the album" is a really nice touch (and something worthy of emulation). :-) Only thing I ask is that you consider extending them and developing them into a release of their own.

Bravo!

On my way to purchase. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much!

I very much like your suggestion to compile a full 'Atmospheres' release - it wouldn't be a stretch to do it now everything else is in place. I might do it in a few months' time when the dust has settled.

Be sure I will keep you informed here!

Warmest wotnots to all

Stephen

Well, most of the tracks started from an ambient recording or some other influence - so the titles came first. Some were based on ambient field recordings I made, many from trips to Paris.

1 Euro Star - recording at the Eurostar terminal, Gare Du Nord, Paris
3 Périphérique - Inspired by being driven around the Paris Périphérique (ring-road)
5 On the Beach - named after an artistic fashion show that this was written for
6 Glass in Rain - most sounds were derived from glass - written originally for a film about a glass-maker friend
7 Sacré-Coeur - this is the ambience recorded in the Sacré-Coeur Cathedral in Paris - at 6 in the morning - you can hear the cleaners banging about
8 Metro - the Paris Metro!
9 The Boy Who Said Yes - is based on a clip of myself age 13 singing in 'Der Jasager' by Kurt Weill.

So generally the concept came first!

Cheers

A huge congratulations to you, Stephen.

"The Boy Who Said Yes" is hauntingly beautiful and I love the title to that song. I'm going to buy the album just for that, so there!

I know how hard it is to find the time to do your own music while working on everyone else's. Good for you!

Thank you Dan!

'The Boy Who Said Yes' is a loose translation of 'Der Jasager' ('The Yes Sayer') a school opera written by Kurt Weill.

The voice and piano excerpt is taken from a recording of a performance of that opera in 1966. The Boy is me - aged thirteen.

So this composition has a very special meaning to me and the decisions I have made in my life.

The ghostly voices in the background are 'derived' from other sung parts of the opera - they invoke memories of singing in New College Choir, and the effect that somewhat haunting and serious environment had on me.

Cheers!

No wonder why I love it so. All that history and meaning in the creative hands of someone who it helped shape. How fantastic is that? It is a wonderful piece, and it's so cool that that is you from 46 years ago.

This is new for me. Electronic Music has never been my thing. I give it a fair listen now and again, and I like some of it, but I usually get bored very quickly with it. I'm getting a lot out of your album so far. I love how it builds and the emotion that drives it.
