Ver 1.1.3 won't install on Vista PC

Post by KeyMaster »

Program goes through install routine normally until end, then get Windows error message, "A problem with the program caused the registry server to stop working. Windows will let you know if it finds a solution." (It doesn't find one.) I let the install program finish, then try to launch MSI and it gives the error message, "cannot find user interface DLL...reinstall..." Checking the windows drivers folder, I do not find any motuDLL. This is on a PC running Vista32, with latest iLok drivers installed. Tried reinstalling, uninstall and reinstall, run as administrator, no difference. Suggestions?

PS - The last attempt at installation which generated the error and warning list below was done with DEP turned off for the registry server. It made no difference from when DEP was on for all programs. Here are the relevant error and warning messages from Event Viewer:

Man, what a headache. BUT, the problem is fixed. For anyone having the same problem here's what I did (a combination of suggestions from MOTU tech support and slogging through forum posts):

- remove Internet Explorer 8 (Vista automatically reverts to IE7)
- download the MSI Installer FROM THE MOTU WEBSITE . Don't use the one that came in the box. The one on the website is listed as Vista 32 bit Beta prerelease (but it's not), and version code is 1.1.3b2
- install the soundfile disk first
- insert the iLok dongle
- run the MSI installer program
- let it do a full install (don't click any other selections such as VST)
- click "add another VST location" as many times as it takes (like, 40x) to get the blue bar all the way across the popup box

It finishes installing without hanging up at "registry server stopped working"
