I suspect the problem is at your end. Nothing wrong with the MOTU server from here.

There are ways to get the installer to you. Do you have a Dropbox account? If so, you can contact me back channel with your email address and I can send a download link.

you are so sweet Mike,
the dropbox is not supported either in 10.6.8.
but I downloaded google chrome and it works!
Thank you for your always valuable input and help.
I will keep you posted if the DP9 solves my memory utilization problem.

UPDATE!
Very sad news.
DP9 runs even worse for me than DP7.
I loaded the same project with exactly the same instruments, and the processing meter got red in the first 5 seconds!!

I am returning the memory and I am not buying DP9 until I upgrade to a new mac in the future.
But it was really worthy the try.I learned a lot from all this.
I will live with the 13GB of memory and DP7 (which for me is a very cool version)

Upgrade to DP9.

DP7 is a 32 bit application. DP7 and any running plug-ins can use no more than 4 GB RAM.

DP9 is a 64 bit application and can use as much RAM as is available in the computer.

RAM is not the only factor in overall performance. Drive speed makes a big difference to sample based instruments. An SSD is the most powerful type of drive for VI use.

You mention raising the Buffer Size. If that makes a difference that tells you the CPU is working hard. Adding more RAM does not increase CPU power.

I just upgraded a few months ago from DP 7 to DP 9.5 - it's much, much better performance wise.

I maintain two computers. I have an old Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and a newer Macbook running 10.11. DP9 installed on both computers.

One of the many differences between DP7 and DP9 is how Apple core audio is addressed. In DP7 a Buffer Setting of 128 runs with the same latency and CPU load as a setting of 256 in DP9. In other words double the Buffer setting in DP9 and you should get the same efficiency and latency as half the buffer size in DP7.

And, any time you see dramatic differences in performance between two versions of the app, open the Background Processing window to see if the new version is doing any DSP calculation ,etc.

And, in DP 9 there is an Effects Performance window under the Studio menu that will tell you what resources your plug-ins are using. Very handy!

All these things you and the previous users mentioned are good in theory.
Now in reality: my system works much better with DP7 than the free trial of DP9. When I played my project to DP9, the performamce meter got red, no tracks could play more than a second with stuttering and so on. A terrible experience.
I had versions 5, 6 and 7, and tried 9 and so far the DP7 is the one that gave me the least issues.

Unless I buy a new Mac Pro, I am not upgrading to DP9.

I think one of the points Dave was trying to make clear is, if you run the same buffer in DP9.x as you did in DP7, the computer is working considerably harder. This could well explain the stuttering, etc.

Just sayin'.
