Trouble opening old file

Post by waterstrum »

I am trying to open an old project.

Last opened in 2009.

All of the audio files and folders are there.

Upon opening, I get the message....
An error occurred while reading from the disk.
The file will not be loaded.
Unreadable data was encountered while reading the file.

I tried making a new project and using the "load" command.
Same result.

I'm assuming the data is somehow corrupted, but wondered if anybody knows a way to repair this.

Thanks!
All is well

Are the audio files SDII format by any chance? I can't remember when DP discontinued SDII support...

They didn't. My projects with SD2 files still open.

There are a few possible causes for the problem but that isn't one of them.

Let's start with the basics: OS and version? DP version? What version of DP created those files?

Assuming that this is not the computer that created the files, how did you move them to the one you are using now?

What is the exact name of the file including extension (if any)?
DP 11.31; 828mkII FW, micro lite, M4, MTP/AV USB Firmware 2.0.1
2023 Mac Studio M2 8TB, 192GB RAM, OS Sonoma 14.4, USB4 8TB external, M-Audio AIR 192|14, Mackie ProFxv3 6/10/12; 2012 MBPs Catalina, Mojave
IK-NI-Izotope-PSP-Garritan-Antares, LogicPro X, Finale 27.4, Dorico 5.2, Notion 6, Overture 5, TwistedWave, DSP-Q 5, SmartScore64 Pro, Toast 20 Pro

Thanks for the replies.

To answer Mike's questions...
I'm running Mac OS 10.9.5 with DP9.5.
The project was created in DP 5.13.
The file name is "ALAN COLEMAN" with no extension.
I tried adding .dpdoc but that didn't help.
The file resides on the HD where it was originally recorded, which was subsequently moved to my current Mac.
A version of the file with the same name, recorded a year before this one, opens fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
All is well

How was it moved? Any chance it made its way there via media that was formatted for Windows? I'm not sure it still holds true, certain Mac-specific file info can get lost if you don't zip the files before transferring to a server or Windows formatted media.

Shot in the dark here.

Sounds like he's saying the HD was moved (rather than the data).
M1 MBP; OS 12, FF800, DP 11.3, Kontakt 7, Reaktor 6, PC3K7, K2661S, iPad6, Godin XTSA, Two Ibanez 5 string basses (1 fretted, 1 fretless), FM3, SY-1000, etc.

Try zipping the project on the original HD, moving it to your current Mac and unzipping it there.
