MSI & Mach5-2 working in 32bit until El Capitan!

Post by anamorphic »

Hi all, long time no post.

DP 9.5 was working fine in 64 and 32 bit modes; I was able to use 32 bit mode to open older DP projects that used MSI and Mach5-2 and they showed up with no problem. My older tracks with IK's Guitar Rig 3 even showed up. But I just upgraded to El Capitan (because EZ Drummer was flickering in Yosemite) and now MSI and Mach5-2 are listed as "missing."

Is this a Java thing or something else that El Capitan has removed from the equation? I tried going back to DP 9.13 but the plug-ins are still "missing."

If it's a "java thing" then installing this will fix.

32 bit apps still work if the GUI was updated to Cocoa. Carbon only GUIs haven't worked since Yosemite (or was it Mavericks?) It may be a Carbon vs Cocoa. if so, 32Lives may help ($99).

If it's SIP, you can test by disabling — If MV2 works, that was it.

It could be none of the above. Upgrading to MachFive3 should do it in any case. It's 64 bit. $179 and includes a large number of older UVI VIs and effects (the included UVI DVDs might not work but the downloads do).

MachFive3 works pretty well. It will no longer host the latest Kontakt nor UVI Libraries but that shouldn't be an issue for you.

Thanks, Mike. I do have MachFive3 already; I use it with the 64bit MSI library in newer projects. But I have over a dozen older songs that used the native MSI & MachFive2 plug-ins that opened and played with those old versions as late as last week.

I will investigate your other suggestions, I appreciate them!
