Time to update... or leave it alone?

Post by rob fetters »

Hi Motunationals,
A project fell through and I have a whole week free to mess my life up installing updates – after a year of fairly smooth sailing via OS 10.10.5 and DP 9.01. ( ...a few glitches and crashes but I am so very grateful for the 21st century tools at our disposal. Without them, I'd have to get a real job. Without Motunation, I'd have to hire a tech consultant!)
1) How's 9.12 working for you?
2) What OS do you think is optimum for DP at this stage of the game?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

9.02 is the last reliable update for me. Sierra seems to be working just fine. haven't done this week's OS update but there's no earthshaking enhancements so It'll wait until I'm out of the weeds on the current project.

I'd go for the Sierra update, for sure. You can try 9.12, and I don't recall the issues that made me drop back to 9.02, but I recall them as substantial enough and several others on this board are also not using 9.12. At some point being an unrecognized beta tester gets old and i refuse to do it any longer.

The rest of you guys STAY OFF MY LAWN!!!! LOL

Stay with 9.02 till they get the kinks worked out with the new Pre-Gen engine. It's caused a lot of audio dropout issues while editing.

+1 on staying with 9.02.

If you have spare time, it's worth trying out 9.12. Some people do see fairly significant performance increases if you don't run in to any of the issues and have a system configuration that plays well with it.

If you don't have spare time and patience though... don't bother.

You can download both. Rename the first install or the second will overwrite the file. It can be as simple as adding the version number to the end of the name. You should also rename your 9.01 install and keep it till you've verified 9.02.

Install 9.12 next to 9.02. Compare. Work with one or the other for what you need. yeah, just what Mike said. I have both on my system.

Mike,
By re-naming the "earlier install" I simply add the version suffix to the where it says "Digital Performer" in my HD/Applications folder?

That'll work, but you can name it whatever you like. It'll still do the same thing when launched.

I'm coming to this from an old os.
On 10.9.5, DP 9.12 is a dream.
Feels like hardware.
Never a glitch.
All is well
