Capturing MIDI fx as a real copy

Post by emjayinla »

Greetings,

I'm using DP9.12 I have a MIDI track and I'm using the Echo MIDI effect insert. As luck would have it I hit on some cool setting and I'd like to capture the resulting MIDI "sequence" as actual MIDI notes. I understand I can save the Echo preset but what I'd like to do is capture the exact notes and timings of what is being played back. This way I can bypass the plugin and edit some of the particular notes.

I tried exporting the track as a MIDI file but the result only has the actual notes, not the notes created by the echo insert.

Is it possible to do this?

Cheers.

Glad to see you using the MIDI fx plugs. They don't get enough love. Initially I thought "sure!" - "All you have to do is enable Multi Record and route the output of the echo track to DP output and the input of another track to to DP input and record from there." Well, I just tried it and it didn't work. So not very helpful, I know. But, perhaps this is close to the approach to take? Perhaps you can get something similar to work, or maybe someone else can confirm that I'm all wet?

Thanks. In my mind I was going down the road of "external MIDI triggering" but hit a pothole early on.

If anyone has any ideas about this, I'd be much obliged.

How about physical MIDI out (from plugin-effected track in DP via physical MIDI port) to physical MIDI in (routed to another track in DP)?

I believe I've used the IAC bus for this but it's been a while. Basically what HCMarkus says but no need to route externally.

It would be nice to have MIDI routing more flexible with MIDI auxes in DP. Seems like that would be easy for MOTU to implement.

First, select the MIDI you'd like to apply the effect to. Then, go to:

Region > Capture Realtime MIDI Effects
DP 10.13, OS 13.6, iMac Pro (2017) 3.2 GHz 8-Core, 32 GB RAM, MOTU M4

No kidding. One reason I dislike Finale now is that the manual is online only. WT...!
