Audio Track Waveform Turned Sky-Blue, Cursor=Lasso

Post by mr88cet »

I don’t know what I hit, but somehow, in the lower of two audio tracks, the waveforms turned sky-bluish, and my cursor, when in that track, is always a lasso.

It’s not clear that anything is happening when I select stuff with the lasso.

Poking through the manual, I was looking like I’d inadvertently turned on automation for that track, but it doesn't appear to be on in the mixer for that track, and turning off the global automation enable didn’t affect it.

Anybody know what ... mode ... I apparently put that that track into?

I don't know the exact Digital Performer version number (in a different location now; can't check), other than that it's quite recent. On a Mac.

Can you post a screen shot?

Cursor-wise, select Tools from the main menu and you should be able to click on the arrow to restore the primary cursor.

(Yeah, I was looking for a way to post a screen shot here, but I didn't see it. Hold on, I'll check again...)

To post a screenshot on this forum, do I need to stuff it off on the WWW somewhere and post the URL? If so, can you give me an example or suggestion for where (Instagram?)? I don't have any personal web space, I'm afraid...

Thanks, folks!

Flickr is one. Or if you are on the iPad/iPhone Tapatalk app, you can get the photo to your device photos and upload via Tapatalk.

Aha! Thanks for the Tapatalk suggestion.

This picture doesn't show the lasso cursor, but ... not much to say about that in particular... :-)

I took that picture this morning to send to MOTU, wanted to keep it small. I can take another picture cropped less, if that would help.

Audio-2 is blue because it's showing the (nonexistent) volume automation instead of the Soundbite. Click on the Volume tab arrow and select Soundbites and it will look like the top waveform.

Here's a bigger picture: It sure looks like it thinks it's using the usual arrow cursor, and the track above it behaves perfectly normally, but that lower track always gets a lasso cursor.

That's most likely because the lower track is "awaiting" some automation input. Or there is some already there. If you switch that 2nd track from volume to soundbites, as mentioned earlier, it will look like the track above it and the cursor should revert back to the arrow.

OK, that did indeed fix it! Thanks a bunch!

As I mentioned originally, I'd looked over the manual, and it sounded like an automation-related concern, so I turned off the global automation enable, and that didn't help. Also, in the mixer, it did not show up with automation on.
