DP 9.12 Out Of Application Memory(!)

Post by leigh »

After a few hours of editing an audio-only 96/24 project, I saved and then tried to quit. After a minute or so I get this alert:

Has anyone else seen this?

With me, I was just as likely to get that error for my browser instead of DP. I haven't seen it other than when both DP and the internet were up for more than 24 hours.

You can try running the following in Terminal: sudo purge. It may or may not help. It's not as good as a reboot but it frees up some RAM.

If not rebooting daily, get in the habit of doing so. Many apps and plugs have memory leaks. This slows down the cumulative effect.

You have way too many processes running during a DP session. Quitting your browser and all its helpers before beginning a DP session will help—also rebooting helps even more.

Your iMac can handle up to 32G RAM (27" only). Looks like a good idea for you to do so. Replace your 4G sticks with 8G.

Once I upgraded mine to 32G RAM and got back into the habit of rebooting daily, I no longer saw this.

I have other suggestions but I need to know about your system, before making them. What year iMac? HHD, SSD or Fusion? How full is your drive?

Oddly enough, I got this error yesterday as well. First time seeing this....with just editing 2 tracks of VO! Had to force quit. Strange.
