DP 9.1, can not close projects without crash

Post by berlinpigeon »

This is a new one for me. I use a Mac Pro with El Capitan 10.11.6 and the latest Digital Performer version 9.1.

Whenever I try to close a session, DP crashes and I see the ball spinning until I force quit the session. If I just open a different session (while in an old one), it closes automatically and does so fine, and then opens the new session just fine. How can this be? Anyone else? My workflow here is seriously interrupted!

Thank you!!!

You should probably put in your signature all your details so that other forum members can see if there are any issues with other software or hardware and can help you better.

That aside I have not had this problem - but then all my plugins and VI's seem to work with DP 9.1 and El Capitan. I can only assume it could be a VI or plugin that causes this hanging - others here may know which of your plugins could be a problem - particularly this pre-gen issue that some are experiencing. However, in normal use DP 9.1 and El Capitan do not exhibit your issues on my setup.

Repair permissions and also delete your plists.

Also try turning off auto-save in DP prefs, see if it makes a difference for you.

Could be a plugin. Launch DP with the option key held down, choose "safe" mode.

Many crash at quit problems are due to a damaged plist file. If the app can't write to updated plist it usually crashes the app.

Hangs on close are usually related to some third party plugin. Do you get the hang when closing a project that doesn't use any third party plugins?

I've also had crash at quit problems connected to a mouse driver. If I quit with the mouse, it crashed (Finale), if I used cmd-q, it closed as expected.

Could be anything, really, not one or the other. A plist for a plugin can certainly do the trick, especially if you saved a custom setting and it couldn't write to the file to save it.

First of all many thanks to all your great replies! I am so grateful to be in the DP community with such helpful colleagues!

And thanks to your help, I figured out what the problem was. I recently acquired the Soundtoys bundle and one of the plug-ins (the Crystalliser) failed the test, so I reexamined it and now the short cut (ctrl+cmd+W) for closing a session, works just fine.

Just out of interest. How do I delete my playlists?

Thanks again for all your help!
