iZotope RX4 and Yosemite

Post by CT »

RX4 Advanced works perfectly with DP 8.07 under Mountain Lion, but, under Yosemite, overwriting the original file via the RX4 standalone editor produces a broadband noise file in Digital Performer.

Restarting DP cures the problem but takes far too much time with a big sequence.

I`ve tried with DP 9.02 and also with all plug-ins disabled, but the same problem occurs.
iZotope recognize the problem and say they will work on a solution...
They also said bouncing the soundbite could work, but this doesn`t work for me.

So, is anybody successfully using RX4 Advanced with Yosemite? Or even RX5 Advanced?

Thanks for any feedback!

I use RX 5 Advanced, first in Yosemite, now in El Capitan. Before that, I was using RX 4A in Yosemite. I consider it essential to my work and do not experience your problem.

There are a number of tools and modules in RX Advanced. You have to be way more specific. What are you doing?

I upgraded to 5A to get the Deplosive Tool and it works beautifully.

Thanks for your reply Mike.

Any process I do in RX4 gives the bug after Overwriting the original file and returning to DP (Dereverb, deClick, Spectral repair etc.). Audio is always fine in RX, but when I switch back to DP, DP redraws the waveform and produces a broadband noise file. Restarting DP redraws the waveform again and the audio is fine.

Interesting to hear that you had RX 4A working in Yosemite. Perhaps it is my EuCon or Apogee Maestro tripping things up?

I agree, RX 4A is essential for me as well, I tried the demo of RX 5A and the deplosive tool is a tremendous time saver. Unfortunately the demo does not allow you to overwrite the original file so I don`t know how I can test whether RX 5A gives the same problem on my setup.

Further testing shows that: Overwriting the original file via the RX 4A standalone editor produces a broadband noise file in Digital Performer only with mono files. Stereo files show no problem.

Interesting. Does it do the same in DP 9? You can download the demo and test.

If you'd like, you can PM me for my email address and send me a small test file that is giving you this problem. I can open it in DP 8 and 9 in El Cap to see if I can duplicate the result.

Yes, I tried with DP 9.02, but it shows the same problem.

Currently having to go back to Mountain Lion for any mono RX 4 stuff... then back to Yosemite to continue working...

I'll have to check my last project again to see if the voiceovers were mono. I used the RX4 denoise plug in 3 or 4 tracks (bad production audio) and it worked fine in El Cap.

That would be great if you could check. Thanks!

Most of the time I am using the plugin, too. With Advanced, each may be run as separate plugs. Denoise, Declick and Dehum have allowed me to perform miracles on old, deteriorated analog tapes. Rarely have I needed any of the tools only available in the app.

Deplosive, OTOH, is one of the tools that must be used in stand alone mode. I've been using it on stereo tracks which, as you indicate, shouldn't give me a problem. I'll find a mono track this weekend, run it through and send it back to DP to see if I can duplicate your problem with RX 5A.

I find it curious that Izotope told me that they were aware of the issue and are working on it. Hmmmmm... this indicates that a) it's not fixed in 5A and b) still an issue in OS 10.11. We'll see.

Now you've got me curious.

Editing dialog tracks is easier for me with the standalone app. I never get dialog that`s consistent enough to use a plug-in with.

iZotope just gave me a temporary license to test RX 5A with DP in Yosemite. Unfortunately mono files still render to full scale when overwritten and switching back to to DP.

The problem is just mono files...
...not true, stereo files are also affected. The problem seems to be with the DP Analysis file after RX has overwritten it.

Closing the DP project and re-opening it does not correct the problem.
However, erasing the Analysis file and then opening the project creates a new analysis file that draws the waveform correctly.
This file can now be treated with RX and redraws correctly after each process. However, the fix only sticks until the the file is bounced, then the problem occurs again.

e.g.
Open RX4 via DP external editor / process spectral repair / overwrite original file = FS waveform in DP.
-> Close DP / open DP project = FS waveform in DP.
-> Close DP / erase DP Analysis files / open DP project = waveform ok.

As mentioned before, I have tested with RX5 and DP 9.02 = FS waveform.
RX4 / DP 8.07 / Mountain Lion works fine.

Yikes!

Since interaction between the new file and DP Analysis appears to be the problem, there might be a workaround available in DP. I'll try to see if I can fool around with it this week.

That would be great Mike.
Got a tv series coming in and the thought of having to reload a half hour show each time to use Spectral repair fills me with dread! :?
