That gives me the idea of reading all posts in a variety of voices. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, John Wayne, Joel Gray, Sylvester Stallone (wait... that would only work for Tim's posts. Sly can't say more than three words at a time)... the possibilities are endless.

Depending on what you are looking for you might be better off "upgrading" to Falcon - sorry to say.

I had a look at Falcon, thanks for the tip. The reason I like MachFive is the library that comes with it - I have never actually used the sampler, I am not really into that sort of thing.

For £139 I can upgrade to MF3 which, as far as I can see, which may not be far enough, is a lot cheaper than buying separate libraries for keyboards, guitars etc ?

Or am I missing something here ?

I have all of the M53 instruments working in Falcon,afaik UVI still has a cross grade program for M5 users to move to Falcon.
Yeah M5 is good but I'd be wary of spending any $$$ on upgrading M5 as it appears to be EOL........
Falcon is great ,constantly being updated,it's supported by UVI and 3rd party developers are creating libraries for it.

In the end I decided to buy the upgrade to MF 3.

However I did discover yesterday that clicking on some parts of the piano completely froze DP such that I had to abandon and start again.

Be sure to repair permissions after any install of any software. You might also clear caches (via Onxy, etc).

And you can import you M5-2 programs into M5-3 so you won't loose those sounds.

To KGDrum: all my MachFIVE sounds (from earlier version and my custom sounds) are working in MachFIVE 3.

There is so little difference (AFAIK) between M5-3 and Falcon it's really not worth the effort to change apps. Well, there is a big difference in the libraries that come wth the programs and the import abilities with M5 being far superior on both counts. Choose wisely! I believe the o/p has.

Machfive 2 and MOTU Symphonic both work up to Yosemite 10.10.5 as AU versions. After an upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.5 at least, they break.

If you need to be on El Capitan, and you need Machfive, there's little choice but to upgrade to M53.

I am on El Capitan and solved this with Falcon. It plays all the previous UFS libraries.

MV3 can load many sample types that Falcon cannot including EXS24 (MainStage and Logic Pro). As you have seen, it also comes with a large number of libraries from UVI that you would pay extra for otherwise.

In fact, MainStage 3 ($29.95 from Apple) is a heck of an add-on pack to MachFive 3 for very little money. It comes with over 13G of samples plus Alchemy, another powerful synth of its own. It's a live performance tool otherwise instead of a DAW like Logic.

The down side is that MV3 is showing its age. It cannot run some of the latest UVI libraries—though the free UVI player can. For example, UVI's older RetroOrgans runs fine in MV3 but the newer RetroOrgans Suite does not.

Falcon runs all the latest UVI libraries but cannot host EXS24 nor many other file types. Neither does it come with as many libraries. It does come with a voucher for $100 to purchase more. It's synth is somewhat like MV3 on steroids—if you were to use it.

Both include IRCAM stretch, still the best tool for manipulating time and pitch of your samples and DP tracks.

I'm one of those who finds Falcon interesting but saw no reason to purchase it. MachFive 3.2.1 combined with the free UVI player does what I need. I don't use the synth either.
