wavearts v4 32 bit in DP8/10.11

Post by DPbassCT »

I installed my wavearts v4 plugs two years ago when upgrading to DP8 with a new machine, along with my current v5 ones. At that time (June '14), running DP in 32 bit mode allowed me to open older files I had mixed with the v4 plugs, with all my settings as I had saved them. More recently, I discovered that the v4 plugs in these older DP files are now not recognized; specifically, a dialog box tells me they're missing, and they appear in the mixer slots italicized and in parentheses. The plug-in browser shows all my wavearts plugs except the MAS versions I had originally used. The plugs themselves are still where they were originally installed (Library>Audio>Plug-ins>MAS).

I can open these older files on my old machine (G4MDD/10.4/DP4.61) and all is there as expected. I can save settings and copy them one at a time there if I have to but I'd love to be able to open on the current setup. The nice folks at wavearts were helpful but didn't have any immediate solution.

My best guess is that, since the v4 plugs are the same final version as installed, and DP8 only saw a maintenance update since then (8.06 to 8.07), that an newer iteration of the OS (what was it back in '14? 10.8 maybe?) broke the ability of DP to see the MAS versions.

Any thoughts/insights are greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

I don't know how MAS handles the whole 32/64 bit architecture.

Is it possible that when you updated DP8, that it got switched back to 64-bit mode?

The DP update happened a while ago. I've been specifically launching DP in 32 bit mode to address this, as evidenced by the checkbox setting in "get info", as well as the splash screen.

Other MAS plugs are present in 32 bit mode – just not the v4 wavearts ones.

If an OS upgrade was responsible for the change in behavior, I can't be sure which one it was. It had been a while since I opened any of my older work.

Understood. The ones in question are wavearts v4 plugs (track plug and master verb) that are 32 bit. I used them with DP from '04 to '09 before moving to the v5 (current) versions. They are still instantiated with saved settings on everything I recorded and mixed during that time frame (they're all there when I open on my older machine). They worked as expected on these older files until recently with the new cpu/OS. I suspect an OS upgrade caused the problem. The people at wavearts agreed, FWIW.

Just to re-state: they did work previously on my current machine under DP8 in 32 bit mode.

In that case, they probably support Carbon graphics only. If that's the case, you won't see them in OS 10.8 and later which requires Cocoa graphics support.
