Bias Peak Pro 7 works with El Capitan 10.11.2

Post by Guitar Gaz »

Just wanted to let people know that Bias Peak Pro 7 is still working - now with El Capitan 10.11.2. Despite being supposedly defunct since 2012 it is working well - even better than under Yosemite without that annoying bug where you could not close the soundfile - now you can close the file and it works as usual. So anyone who owns it can still use it, and it probably tells us something about the original code of this software - and that Mac OSX is evolving but some old code still works on it. It's strange but true - hard to believe but the proof is here on my machine....

Man that is so cool I have not been able to find a better editor than bias peak. Though I have DSP Quattro which is a decent editor has been updated but I'm still not sure if it is 64 bit application yet.

Speaking of old software that still works... I'm still running Elemental Audio's Inspector XL plug-ins via 32Lives in DP9.01 and OS 10.11.2. It just keeps going!

To my knowledge, while Peak 7 still works in Yosemite and El Cap, the installer does NOT
work. So if you want to re-install Peak 7 on a Yosemite or El Cap system, you are out of luck.

Can anyone still using Peak 7 confirm this?

Many old installers work if you go to System Preferences/Security & Privacy and check the box for Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere

Does this not work?

Won't work if the installer is a PowerPC compatible installer, which is what Peak7's installer is,
I believe.

Ahhhh... yes, been there with other things.

There must be a manual install process; it may be a convoluted PIA, however. Hopefully someone has posted how to do this somewhere—you can't be the only one with this issue, I would think. You would open the PPC installer and extract the components. You should be able to do this in Get Info/Show package components.

Every once in a while, developers really don't want you to see under the hood and some of the files may be hidden. To find them, run the following in Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

killall Finder

When done:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

killall Finder

I don't know about Bias, but the problem with the old Elemental stuff is the Authorizer is a PPC application. The components are easy to extract from the installer, but the authorization process uses the Authorizer app. :(
I've been dragging this stuff around via migration assistant for years. At some point I'll need a clean install of the OS for some reason and I'll have to abandon some great old software.

Suddenly, Peak Pro 7 has stopped working for me, and gets the same crash log every time, whether my audio interface is on and even after multiple reboots and repair disc actions.

I thought I remembered someone else reporting on this recently and offering solutions, but didn't find it during a search.

I don't know what to do as I can't do the basic things I need to do in RX Advanced or DSP-Quattro, so I may have to finally download a demo of WaveLab's latest release.

So much for finishing some mastering tonight.

There is a slight problem under Sierra when you try to select save file or open file in the Peak selection box - although if you click the menu item it then shows (otherwise pinked out). However the program seems to work fine otherwise in Sierra. It was working fine in El Capitan and it's difficult to see what would have changed other than Peak was maybe trying to load some VST plugins maybe?

I forgot about that. I swore off Peak when, after paying a very expensive upgrade fee to get it working in OS 10.3, they wanted an equal amount to be compatible with OS 10.4.

There are a number of programs that still work if installed in earlier OS but won't install anymore.

A few that come to mind include DP 5.13 (10.6 w/ Rosetta), DP 7.24 (10.11), Word 2008 (10.10).

Still others work but are missing some functionality including Adobe Elements 6.
