No tails from SoundToys 5 when I hit Stop

Post by dix »

None of the delays or ambiences of any of the SoundToys 5 plugins sound when I stop the sequence in DP. Stopping or Pausing cuts off the delay. Wasn't an issue with ST4. Anyone else getting this? Any idea what's up? I have an email into ST support, but have not heard back. ...yes, I'm running in real time.

Thx!

Not happening here. Do you have the latest version of ST? (ST 5.01).

Curious as to why you need tails to continue after stopping the DP sequence. That isn't something that could be recorded onto a track or mixdown.

Thanks for responding. Yes, 5.0.1.1

I need tails mainly so I can preview the effect. Stopping the sequence is the best way to hear if the delay feedback or ambience is where you want it. I'm able to work around by muting the track and soloing the return while the sequence plays, but it's a pia.

...although I can see how this problem might actually be an advantage if you were working with really long tails, I'd much rather have it the normal way.

You can always playback and solo a track that is bussed to a Sound Toys effect to hear how the effect is working for that particular track. Actually that is what I do anyway, I don't stop playback to tails.

It's a workaround..just sayin'.

In case anyone is interested, the issue seems to have fixed itself inexplicably! Not sure why, but I can now hear tails normally. ...anyway, you can all get on with your lives now :)

Could it have had anything to do with pre-rendering?

Hi---

I'm having the same issue with Soundtoys 5 (tails cutting off when I stop the sequence).
dlx, do you have any idea what might have fixed your problem?

Thanks :-)

I don't. Sorry. Before it started working again Soundtoys wrote back and said they were aware of the issue and were working on it. It's an AU issue. In the meantime they suggest using the VST version.

Oh I've discovered something--

Delay tails cut off if I only have Soundtoys plugs in the project (that's how I was testing this).
BUT, if I also have AU plug-ins from some (but not all) other companies loaded in the same project (as I would in real projects), the tail will remain after I hit stop.

Plug-ins from Waves, Slate, GRM Tools, Eventide etc etc all seem to do the trick (but some other AU plugs don't)
As I would be using these plug-ins in all of my project, I think this tail-cut-off issue is a non-issue in real-life uses-- yay!

P.S.
However, Plugs like Slate VMR/VTM, which turn themselves off when there's no audio, the Soundtoys delay tails cut off as these plugs turn themselves off..

P.P.S. .... The situation I've described in P.S. can be worked around if I insert something else before Echoboy(for example) in the aux bus. For example, if I insert ren EQ(with EQ off) inserted before Echoboy in my delay aux, the tail will carry on even if those Slate plugs on the audio track turn off after hitting stop..

That probably explains why mine started working. Did you try the VST version?

No I haven't tried VST versions yet-- I'm just trying to see if there's way to make them work in AU, just for the sake of it ;-)
