MIDI tracks playing back late!!!

Post by monstertaxi »

I put buffer at 64 and when I play MIDI notes, it is in beat.

When I play it back, it is OFF. I'm a piano player and usually need little quantization.
I just went from DP 8 to newest 9.01.

Is there a setting I need to do? MOTU is closed for weekend and I'm wondering if any of you experienced this.
For instance, I'll record a kick drum on the ONE. but it then plays back at 1/1/120, not 1/1/00.

Didn't have this problem in the past (DP 8) and I have one year old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5).

Any one have this problem?

I've never had an issue like this, but it seems to me that it might be all about the point in the signal chain that you're monitoring from.

If the data's playing back 120 ticks late, I suspect you're tracking to a commensurately-delayed signal for some reason. Could it be that a Buffy plug is active?

This is kind of a random suggestion, but I recall that folks have messed with this setting and solved some timing problems:

Preferences/Play and Record/MIDI Solo & Patch Thru

[] Sync recorded MIDI to Patch Thru

Sometimes turning this off will fix a thing.

Almost certainly. This question hits the forum at least once per quarter.

120 ticks seems like a lot for a buffer of 64, however. It is at low buffer setting that this function, when enabled, often works really well; it compensates for our natural inclination to push the beat when our hardware produces sound a tad late.

this problem only happened after I upgraded to 9.01 from 8. I have been using Digital Performer professionally for over 15 years. Other than change the version of DP, nothing else was changed on my studio rig.

I will be calling MOTU on Monday morning and let you guys know what caused this.

Ah... so upgrading from DP 8 to 9 toggled your "Sync recorded MIDI to Patch Thru" setting.

Worth noting.
