A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
Postive- DP is running in the red and instead of crashing like has been it’s past tendency, DP is instead, playing for hours without crashing while the red...Nice improvement in stability.
Negative- DP is running in the Red at all?.
My 12 core processor with tons of ram is running between 12 and 40%. Why is DP out of memory when there is apparently MUCH more memory to be had??
I’d be grateful if any member or magic dave etc, would explain where the bottleneck is here?
In my simplistic computer mind, I would imagine DP to show red somewhere near the time the main computer runs red. Now, of course, the comp has to run the rest of the OS so I know DP can;t use 100% of it’s power. But 42% and DP shows red? That’s quite a difference. What am I missing here?
(By the way, my buffers are running at 128 which has a history of being a painting buffer size for a well progressed, large song.)

Probably 32 or 64. Meanwhile, look at the video link posted here, as well as the rest of the thread.

Re: A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
I run 64 bit.
And that video was wonderful..thank you!!
I know I should get ALL SSDs, that would help a lot.
And I wonder how the MOTU 828 mk II is with realtime speed? Hmmm Better to have thunderbolt interfaces? Better “real time” processor speed?

Yeah. 32/64. I'm on vacay and #'s are alien - especially in TX.

Re: A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
Are you mixing? Then run a bigger buffer!
The only time you need to run at 128 is when tracking VI's or tracking while monitoring thru DP effects. If you are running in the red while tracking VIs (MIDI), as long as your system is stable, you should be fine when mixing with a larger buffer.

Re: A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
I have a 12 core machine too, and I have no idea where the processing headroom is with my large projects because I turned all the indicators off a long time ago. I would only turn those on if I had problems, but I never do. I'm doing a project now, a multi-track concert video, where I have hundreds of plugins spread over 22 chunks.. I never get a single complaint from this machine. I run my buffer at 256 all the time, I never change it because it has to reload everything and I hate that. I used to get too much latency for VIs at that setting but since DP 7 or maybe DP8, seems like that problem disappeared for me.
I used to get crashes though.. all the time with DP 9. Then one day I went into Audio MIDI Setup and saw all the Protools 9 crap that was still in there (I don't use PT anymore). I had to go find instructions on uninstalling all the many files, by hand. Many of them were in root places in the system. After that, it was like having a new computer. Everything worked better, but especially DP.. night and day difference.

You're vacationing here in Texas? Ah, and I see you've discovered that sharps are alien here. Yeah, we never quite got used to using those black keys. Easier to just have 12 pianos with all white keys.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Yeah. 32/64. I'm on vacay and #'s are alien - especially in TX.

All white keys, no black keys, Texas?...hmm.... Why am I thinking of Neil Youngs’ lyric bout’ a Cadiac with one wheel stuck in the mud?.....But that was about Southern ManShooshie wrote:You're vacationing here in Texas? Re: A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
Don't worry; our pianos have all the keys (Van Cliburn made sure of that), and our mud has been paved. Even our Ford Extravaganza SUVs never get stuck. I was just riffing on MLC's cryptic message.toodamnhip wrote:All white keys, no black keys, Texas?...hmm.... Re: A Strange Positive/Negative DP Dichotomy
I see the same thing. 12-core...64GB RAM...64bit...SSD drives...and the DP CPU meter is red-lining but not really having any artifacts...and the Apple OSX CPU meter is running at about 1/3 to 1/2 high across all cores with plenty of headroom.
I know the DP CPU meter is measuring more than just CPU cycles...but still something seems amiss.
