If you click on the "Disk" tab at the top of the screen in Activity Monitor, you should see a small moving chart in the centre bottom of the screen showing disk read and write activity. The numbers around it measure the activity.

If Activity Monitor is not showing CPU problems, but is showing spikes in disk activity, that suggests where the problem is. But the solution could be any number of things. Have you checked the disk with Disk Utility?

DC here!

Yes No problems on any of the 4 disks also repaired permissions

BTW:
I have been looking at the disk activity monitor on my MAC.
How can I determine if indeed disk activity is peaking?

Should I look at the graph itself or the numbers:
How can I see in the numbers if/what is causing the spikes?

I would consider a new thumb drive in the future even though your ok now.
Buy a USB 3 PCI card for your mac, I found a few German companies that sell great PCIe cards and get a 245mbps+ USB3 thumb. Really fast drives are awesome.
Some USB 2 thumbs are just not up to the speed of recording or transferring digital audio. Hey MM hi again dude.

Thanks for all the help and the tips.
I will check ou the link Mike sent me.

The stramge thing is that on my Seagate ssd hybrid boot disk
The playback overload issues are gone.

This disk is full of email, office and stuff-it
and bag of other programs & stuff
( I know not the best practice - :D )

On my second boot drive a Western Digital 7200rpm drive with only OS-X 10.10.5 and DP-8.0.7 installed the playback issues remain???

Sounds like that drive might have a problem. The symptoms you have are absolutely hard drive related. Have you pulled up Disk Utility and checked that drive out? Also, you can go to the Apple App Store and get something like Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (free), and check the read/write speed of your disk.

Backup everything, before you do anything!

According to that tool Black Magic Disk Speed test
Result is as follows:

Boot drive Seagate 2Tb ssd/hybride drive
read & write speeds is about 150-140 Mb/sec

Second harddrive a WD Caviar black 1Tb 7200 rpm
Read and write speedsis roughly 50-60 Mb/sec

Fourth harddrive and second bootdrive a WD Caviar Black
1Tb 7200 Rpm
read & write times is roughly 95-105 Mb/sec

This fourth harddrive is the one all my DP-projects reside on.
Most of the times I run DP from the Seagate ssd/hybrid drive.

The projects and media files reside on the fourth drive.
(aka scond boot drive)
