DP9 bug - drum editor crash

Post by cleamon »

I've submitted this to motu, but wanted to see if anyone else can reproduce this crash.

I open my project (a standard MIDI file in this case)
Open the drum editor, and select the drum track
click each note's name field to audition the sound(s)
press spacebar to start playback
click mixer tab
BOOM! Crash!
I tried this exact scenario in DP8.07 and had NO problems.

Even simpler steps:
  • create new project
    add a MIDI track
    open drum editor tab
    select a kit
    click name column (any row)
    open mixer tab
BOOM!

I haven't tried the exact sequence you've posted, but got several crashes in drum editor while trying to edit in the pitch and names columns. Also, selecting different kits often yields weirdness. I had to close and re-launch DP for my kits to show up properly.

But your drum kits DO show up properly after restarting DP? I had some hope the Drum editor would get some attention in this update. I don't see anything in the manual or changelogs. Did you see anything new or better?

Any editing of the kit is lost when mine crashes. As long as I don't click the name column, I'm ok. Hard to do though. For now, I edit the kit in DP8.07, save, then re-open in DP9 AND STAY AWAY from the name column.

 that's the ultimate workaround. Disappointing. But no doubt we'll be seeing a few .0x updates shortly.

Confirmed today by motu. Now it's in their hands.

Reported other Drum Editor issues to MOTU, confirmed bug by MOTU. Bug apparently in both DP 8 and 9 - seems like Drum Editor will get some love.

Well done. Thanks for working this out and helping to get MOTU to pay attention to it. I agree that however DP is saving a Drum Kit setup, it has to be done better. Getting it back again for another project is just too hit and miss.
