Canopus ADVC-110 with DP8?
Hello,
because of an HD failure we had to fix our MacPro with an upgrade of OSX (10.8.5 now, from 10.6. and reinstall everything. (DP7.24), we are demoing DP8 but I cant seem to make the Canopus work through Firewire to a NEC plasma monitor. It worked flawless in 7.24 for years as it does now. I have seen some posts in which it appears that version 8 doesnt support third party interfaces for video? can anyone confirm this? could it be because of DP8 running on 64bits? thank you.

Are you using the current version of DP? I seem to recall the first release(s) lacked FW output but thought that had been fixed.
I'd also suggest not using OS X 10.8 (Lion) as it was fairly buggy. 10.9 or 10.10 are more reliable overall.

Thanks for your answer. DP8.05, and 10.8.5 was recomended by the tech that made the upgrade, he took the machine away and came with this, saying it was well proven and Maverick (and more so Y) could lead to problems...

Well far be it from me to argue with a tech guy (LOL) but it's a well documented fact that 10.8 was a dog with a capital WOOF! Not that an updated will solve your problem. Will any other apps allow output via the Canopus? Maybe DVD Player or a QuickTime player?

I must be honest, dont know how to do that trick with QT. I thought only DP could do this.

Re: Canopus ADVC-110 with DP8?
DP 8 is not your problem. Canopus ADVC-110 is not compatible with 64bit. This means it won't work in 10.8 or later.

I suspected that possibility. Thanks for clarifying.

I haven't needed my Canpous in a while. I'll see if I can get it working.

Really? I'm on 10.8.5 with DP 8.07. Rock solid. That seems to be the general consensus around here (not with DP, but 10.8.5 in general!). Just call me chickenshit for not upgrading to 10.9MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Re: Canopus ADVC-110 with DP8?

sure, I'll look when I'm back in studio tomorrow. Just to emphasize, I'm not talkingabotu using canopus box. I'm just talking about DP 8.07 and 10.8.5 being a great combo.mikehalloran wrote:Good to hear. Is there a link to the drivers you are using?Really? I'm on 10.8.5 with DP 8.07. Rock solid

Re: Canopus ADVC-110 with DP8?
Hi, I noticed this post and thought i'd chip in and muddy the waters further!
I recently changed to DP (DP8) from Logic so that I could output Video via my Canopus. If I run DP on my 2012 Macbook Pro under 10.10.2 the canopus works (using the firewire 800 port). When I try outputting video from my 2012 MacPro (running 10.10.1) DP8 refuses to work with the canopus. I may try using external power on the box as I wonder whether this may be the problem. In the meantime I bought a £20 USB screen extender to run a third screen, and that works perfectly! I use an extended desktop for monitor 1 over 2 screens and I am free to switch monitor 2 between the monitor and a projector to show the picture - I even get a better quality picture to boot!!

Re: Canopus ADVC-110 with DP8?
UPDATE:
I now have DP9 on my 2012 Macbook Pro and 2012 MacPro both running 10.10 and the Canopus AVC-110 works with both. I had a problem running the video from the MacPro, but this time I put only the Canopus on the Firewire port (at the front of my 2012 machine).
So to answer the original post, the Canopus ADVC-110 does work with DP9 running on Macs with OS 10.10.
Hope this helps!
