Solved My computer will not create com.apple.audiounits.cach

Post by toodamnhip »

I need to remove the file- com.apple.audiounits.cache

It is SUPPOSED to be in my User Library folder, under Caches.
The exact route is SUPPOSED to be: user/library/Caches/com.apple.audiounits.cache

My computer cannot find nor does it seem to create this file.

I have tried all sorts of fixes such as permissions repair, creating a new user account etc.
I am having snap shot automation issues with Waves and part of the “repair” is to delete this com.apple.audiounits.cache file. All other fixes for Waves are not working so I assume this file is the culprit.

Anyone know anything about hit so how to get the OS to find or create such a file?

Is it a hidden file? If so, you may have to show hidden files in Terminal to get to it. I'm not on my Mac now but I have the correct command lines there. Syntax tightened up in Mavericks so many of the commands found online don't work after Mountain Lion.

You're sure it's user/library... These are often in usr/... usr is a hidden folder.

Besides Terminal, you can use the Finder search function (CDM-F) and set it to display system and hidden files.

I could find no such file on my system. Perhaps Yosemite re-named it? :?

Me neither but I can find:

Audio Unit Info Cache
Audio Unit Info Cache 64-bit

com.apple.audiounits.cache
Nope, not on my system either. I wonder which version of the OS that may have been?

In case you want to display hidden files, here are the correct commands that work in Yosemite and backwards (older commands ending in Yes/No stopped working in Mavericks). Fortunately, Terminal supports copy and paste. Hit Enter or Return after each command.

To show Hidden Files:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

killall Finder

To re-hide hidden files:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

killall Finder

BTW, killall Finder is a really useful command. It lets you re-launch the finder without killing such processes as File Copy and Time Machine – much better than Option-Command-Esc. Also, you don't have to quit any applications to run it. Re-booting works, of course, but killall Finder takes a few seconds on a mechanical HD; about a second on my SSD.

As an alternative to Terminal commands to show hidden files, if you have some idea what you are looking for, you can use the Find command in the Finder (CMD-F).

Here's a screen shot as an example. Press CMD-F and add the conditions you want. This example shows everything with ".audiounit" in the name, whether or not its a system file or is invisible.

thanks everyone. I found out that only Logic creates such a file. I was instructed incorrectly by my beta team. But thanks for all your help.

Sometimes I like them better with the "correction." That one was funny!

I was funny. And I had NO idea it typed that.
I tell myself over and over to check final versions for typos and still forget....
Hopefully I don’t offend some record co. president one day by typing nasty things about his “daughter”, when I just wanted to say that I feel “we could take the production much “farther”... 8)
