How to copy/paste notes without CC data?
I want to select the notes in one bar and paste into another, but CC1 keeps getting copied/pasted over too. Is there some way to prevent that?
Re: How to copy/paste notes without CC data?
Looks like you are selecting the notes to be moved with the I Beam tool. That selects a time range, and so it includes all the controllers and everything else in the time range chosen. If you select with the lasso (Key command A), then it only selects what is inside the area you mark out with the tool.

No, this is using the 'A' tool (crosshairs).

PLEASE don't post in several sections with the same question. I answered elsewhere. You have the answer.

To my knowledge this is the only time I've asked this question.

Also see SMART SELECTION (page 502 of the DP 8 manual).
Re: How to copy/paste notes without CC data?
Whether Smart Selection is enabled or not has no effect. CC data is still overwritten. See here:

That's odd. I just tried it again to make sure. With the lasso, I don't get this happening. With the I-Beam I do. Smart selection makes no difference here either.
Is your cursor selection mode set to Time Range Only?

No, it's set to "All Selections." This is strange.

Re: How to copy/paste notes without CC data?
When you copy notes, just the notes are copied.
When you PASTE notes, it overwrites everything in the time range that is pasted.
Try MERGING them, instead.
If you are using event selections, you are just copying notes. Time-range selections will copy notes AND controllers. So, figure out whether you are actually copying controller data, or if you are really only copying notes. If you are using event selections (A = pointer), then you should only be copying notes. If you are using a crosshair, you've got Time Range Only selected in your preferences under TOOLS.
So, figure out exactly what you are copying, and whether your problem is occurring during the copy or the paste. If it's during the copy, you are using Time Range selections. If it's during the paste, you need to Merge instead of Paste.

Re: How to copy/paste notes without CC data?
Your movie is deceptive. You are pasting over the data, erasing all the CC#1 data in that time range. Because the line extends through it, it appears that you have pasted CC1, but in fact you've merely obliterated the control points in that range. (the line continues to the end, no matter whether there are any more control points)
Use MERGE.

I was definitely using event selections ('A') not the I-beam. But I'll try the merge option instead, thanks.

The View Filter is your friend!
If you make time range selections, but only want to paste or merge certain elements, hide them from that list. You can save and recall presets there too.

His problem wasn't the copy, but the paste. He was over-writing the range when pasting, when he should have been merging.FMiguelez wrote:The View Filter is your friend!
