Jupiter 80 MIDI problem w/ Motu Digital Performer v7.24

Post by Relayer »

Hi all,

New to this forum. Tried recording using the JP 80 through Motu Digital Performer v7.24. Software on MAC and interface module didn't recognize synth, LEDs on module didn't light while playing. System does work as it recognizes Yamaha and Korg synths. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessin' we need more information. Much more.

5-pin DIN or USB?

What software didn't recognise the synth?

Anything else you care to share.

I guess the first thing to look for is whether the Jupiter has MIDI out settings and is working in other "contexts".

The other thing is you didn't mention whether you had gotten it configured in Apples AudioMIDI Setup (which is in the Utilities folder).

DP will often ignore things that aren't properly yet virtually wired in AudioMIDI Setup.

Problem solved. Individual registrations (patches) need to be assigned specific MIDI channel. I was only looking at the global settings for the keyboard. Here's a follow up question. DP lists numerous keyboards in a drop down list that you use to set up MIDI routings. This keyboard is not included in the list. Is there a way to add it to the existing list or do you have to create it manually ever time you record? Thank you.

You might need to create the device in AMS. but if it doesn't stay or goes italic, I don't remember how to fix that.

What list are you talking about? Where in DP is this list? What is it that you are creating manually? I just need some context in order to understand your question.

Are you talking about the output assignments for MIDI Tracks? If your keyboard is not in the list, you need to add it in Apple's Audio MIDI Setup. That's not part of DP, but all MIDI devices and software use it as their interface on the Mac, as it sets up what's available to Core MIDI, the central nervous system for MIDI in OS X.

When you access Audio MIDI Setup from inside DP, you are working with the Apple app even though it appears to be a DP window. There are ways to try and save custom keyboards, assign icons etc. but it doesn't always work the way you want.
