Cannot create User Preset error DP 8.07 [SOLVED]

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

Having finally gotten around to moving to my new system manually (which has solved 99% of the issues I was having across the OS) DP is now sending me this error message at launch.

Image

If I disable all plugins, it goes away. If I launch with the opt key and select "safe" the error returns so it's not a 3rd party problem, per se.

The Digital Performer and MOTU folders are in their correct places in the Library/Audio/Presets folders (root and user). Repaired permissions, reset the PRAM, still, no love.

Any thoughts? Couldn't find the problem on MOTUNation.com but did see similar issues (via Bing searches) for other apps like Final Cut Pro.

If you moved manually, did you archive (zip) the project folders before you moved them?

If not, I suspect that to be the cause. Try Get Info on the project folder. If you aren't there as administrator, add you admin account and give all users Read and Write privileges. Check the box for Apply to all files...

If you did zip before moving, that shouldn't be the issue.

Some MOTU plugin does not want to write the preset for the settings in that file. I'm guessing that if you load the project into a new file, that might go away. If not, you may have to start over with the plugins in that file. If you were to find the folder where presets are written, and if you were able to put the OLD presets into that folder, it might also solve the problem.

Odd responses: "No, Cancel, & Yes." Have you clicked each to see the outcome?

Just guessing at this point, but I do think it's related to MOTU plugin settings.

Definitely a MOTU plug as Safe plug launch gives the same result. The projects were not touched. They are all on a separate drive. I suspect a permissions issue but I'll try your suggestions and see what happens.

Thanks guys. 'll let you know what shakes out. :unicorn:

THe thing is I am getting the error at launch, not when opening a project, so that points to a systemic issue. I'll try a reinstall of DP.

Reinstall did nothing. Clicking on any of the options just finishes the launch. Projects also give the error when loading. I'll call MOTU Monday. Thanks again.

Not to waste your time, but I'm just curious:

1) will it work with ANY file? Or does it do the same thing with ALL of them?
2) What if you remove the plugins from the MAS folder? (/Library/Audio/Plugins/MAS)
3) Can you get as far as creating a new mix?

Once I dismiss the dialogue DP opens fine. I'm thinking it might be MachFive not being directed toward the old VI library. Stuff to try... Playing a midnight comedy show tonight in H'wood. I could use the diversion.

Found the culprit! MasterVerb 5 (MAS version) was misbehaving. I did the old Conflict Catcher routine and found it in about 5 minutes. Thanks again for the suggestions. All little things like that should be that easy. :)

Also seems to have solved a few window problems with the Mixing Board! Just one little plug can really ruin your whole day.

Wow! Glad you found it. I figured it was one of those MAS plugins, but I didn't stop to think that 3rd party plugins are sometimes MAS format.

That kind of took me by surprise as well. Since getting the Eventide Ultraverb I find I'm using MasterVerb less and less but it still has an important place in some design work. It's been a tedious exercise moving to a new Mac Pro from a 2008 machine, especially given the single internal 1TB drive and all the external carpool stuff. I wonder what the next migratory itineration will be? Maybe just a wireless keyboard, mouse and monitor with the CPU in the Cloud somewhere. :smash:

There were a few in 2005 when MasterVerb 5 was introduced. I recently removed Ozone 3 from my MAS folder during my recent reinstall -- sure was surprised to see that there.

That WAS the future of cloud computing. We just didn't know it yet.
And to think... the Macintosh was the reason why 1984 wasn't going to be like 1984.
But in 2008 or so we went back to 1984 again. It's all mixed up, and I just want to unplug!
