Corrupted audio files ( BWAV )

Post by Klaus »

I've had corrupted audio files again...( total 16 tracks, all corrupted )
http://www.redmountain.ch/DP%20filecorruption.zip ( short samples, BWAV )
If somebody can advise how to repair, great !
Seems to me as if during addressing something got written the wrong way..
DP was running, and stopped only after the 1st set and at the end. Both set of files are corrupted in the same way.
DP 7.24, 10.6.8, X32Core with firewire interface card 32x32
I think I can't blame coreaudio for that, since iTunes and LineIn have performed ok.

Thanks for help
and best regards

Is the problem that you can't open them, or that they don't contain what you expected?

I can open, but please listen...
The zip contains a sample of the corrupted file, and a sample of a good file from a previous recording from a similar setup / DP file

Thanks

Not a lot of detail to go on here- shooting from the hip, my intuition says clocking/mismatched sample rate/bit depth.

I've saved some files via Soundhack but it's been years and I don't remember the procedure, except that it involved stripping the header. IOW, if the audio is good but the header doesn't match the actual audio or is otherwise corrupted (like the header is saying the file length is zero for example) then rebuilding the header can sometimes save the file.

My first questions would be about possible clocking/mismatched sample rate/bit depth issues. How is your clocking configured? Firewire bandwidth? Has this ever worked in the past recording this many tracks or is this a new setup? What testing or troubleshooting have you done?

Agree. It looks like what happens when I get a ADAT or TDIF timing error when wordclock is not in place on my 2408.

This is since about 1 year the first corruption with this rig...
I had DP corrupt files too with a 896mk3H...
The audio stream is definately ok into the mac from the X32Core...
I have imported raw data into Audacity... same thing, it's not the header, maybe it's the actual addressing of the data

Has anybody had Motu fixing files like this ?

Thanks

How do you know that?

I meant the clocking...
Otherwise DP would show an error, since the X32Core is master...

not ?

See if you can open the files in QuickTime 7 and export them to aif or sd2. If you can, convert them back to wav. If this works, it's the header that was corrupted, not the audio.

I put a longer sample online
http://www.redmountain.ch/DP%20filecorruption.zip
and yes QT can open it, as can DP too,
it's the kind of distortion / level jumps / waveform that leads me to the conclusion, that the samples are not addressed right, and create level jumps that sound like distortion...
