Time stretching multiple soundbites simultaneously

Post by waterstrum »

Searched the manual and couldn't find the solution.

I'm selecting 3 soundbites and trying to use the "hand tool" to invoke DP's time stretching feature.
In the past, I have only used this feature on one soundbite at a time... Works great.

Now I'm trying to apply the same time adjustment to 3 tracks, simultaneously.
I select the bites and they are highlighted.

When I go to time stretch, only the bite that I'm grabbing responds.
How do I get all three selected bites to adjust?

Thanks

You can't manually, that's been on my wish list for years, but you can do all three tracks using Region/Scale time (or Alt and '8' - qwerty, not numeric) and setting a percentage or entering an exact advanced or extended start or end time (respectively). Doable, but very laborious.

Wish MOTU would add this feature!

Thanks Sean....

I'm disappointed to hear that I can't do it graphically.
The three tracks need to be precisely time aligned and it helps me to have the visual feedback when stretching/shrinking.

Maybe MOTU will implement this in DP9.

Just ran into another situation where I needed this.
An acoustic guitar on three tracks... 2 mics and a direct.
Several places where subtle time stretching or shrinking were needed.
Tried doing them one by one, but got weird phasing issues. Not precise enough in graphic mode.

Did MOTU ever offer a solution to this?
I'm looking at preferences, etc.
A hidden command somewhere?

Audio in tracks in Stretch Mode will all conform to tempo changes. That's the best way I know to get multiple tracks to all stretch uniformly.

Scale Time works. Once you get used to the window, and how numeric values affect each other, it's pretty cool... It does involve mental math and/or trial and error to get what you want, but at least the tracks stay in phase.

I would love it if time stretching via the hand tool was included as an option in Track Groups.

I couldn't figure out how to refer to my old post, so I'll just reply to it.
I asked the same question a while ago and am still hoping MOTU will add the hand tool for multiple selected soundbites.
It would make me very happy.

Hi everyone!

The way I deal with this issue:
1. Make sure that all soundbites lenght is the same, they all end at the same time.
2.Time stretch just one soundbite.
3. Place a marker at the end of the soundbite.
4. Adjust the rest of the soundbites to that marker.

It´s a little bit tedious with several soundbites, but it works.

Hope it helps!

Ever tried this with phase locked material? Does this operation maintain phase coherency? I routinely time stretch multiple tracks to locked markers, but can’t recall ever trying phase locked tracks.

Just in case this may help:

Inserting a marker at the very end of a soundbite is easy:
- select soundbite in SE
- set tranport to pause (transport pannel)
- Cmd + 6 (set wiper at soundbite end)
- ctrl + M (insert marker)
- set name of the marker (or let it go as marker #)
- press return key

BTW, same goes about inserting a marker at the very start of a soundbite:
- select soundbite in SE
- set tranport to pause (transport pannel)
- Cmd + 4 (set wiper at soundbite start)
- ctrl + M (insert marker)
- set name of the marker (or let it go as marker #)
- press return key

This is sample accurate, so there should be no phase issue with multiple soundbites.

No, this has never worked with a mic’d drum kit.
It would be great to be wrong!
‘Scale Time’ does work.
