It's always a mouse click before a crash...

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

On my system, it's never calling up a key command for a process or a window that crashes DP. DP 8 crashes are ALWAYS preceded by a mouse click. Could be clicking anywhere, but the one thing in common for all my crashes is a mouse click. Not every mouse click, and I dare say I've seen a few (very few) random crashes out of nowhere. But whether it's closing a window, adjusting a value, moving a note, or editing by hand, my crashes ALWAYS happen after using the mouse to accomplish something.

I know Shooshie and others have experienced issues with the magic trackpad (which I have but don't use) but that might beg the question of whether the "call to the cursor" by a pointing device is broken in DP or not?

Just a random thought. :unicorn:

Same here - never thought about it but you are right. Hasn't happened for a while to me but yes its always following a mouse click.

I hadn't really noticed, but on reflection I think you're right. But is it just DP, or does that apply to most apps? I have noticed the Mavericks Finder ignoring clicks on windows that have not refreshed for a long time. Work around is to move the window, and repeat the click.

FWIW, there are a few clicks being "ignored" in MVKS. I notice it a lot when trying to sort and resize OPEN and SAVE dialogue boxes in some programs (not in the FINDER). Then again, FINDER has a confirmed bug in some systems where the NAME portion of a new FINDER window is waaaay too long and takes up the whole window. Many reports confirm this in Apple Discussions, so it may well be some OS thing, but I don't get as many crashes (none I think) in other programs. Just DP. And those crashes are not specific to mouse clicks as the ones ion DP are.

As with a lot of recent problems symptoms seem to be different for different users. I don't get crashes, just a lot of pauses without beach balls. It reminds me of Windows years ago when malware was getting bad and PCs spent a lot of time checking for problems.

My DP crashes always start with a beach ball (after the mouse click) with very few exceptions. But it NEVER recovers from any beach ball. If I see that I know it curtains!

DP 9 won't even run on my machine. I'm still stuck in July 2014. I need a faster Mac.

Brilliant observation and spot on from my experience.

Could be the math though.. how many more mouse clicks are there, compared to hot keys?

I use a ton of key commands as well as Quickey commands in all my regular programs, but it is clear that for me, it is the mouse that likes to crash the clown car.

There was a time in Finale (around 3003 or 2004 I think) where quitting the program using the mouse from the FILE menu would crash the app at quit every time. Tech support said use cmd-q instead and the crash went away. They attributed it to the mouse driver as I recall.

The DP crashes aren't repeatable for the most part for me and seem random in terms of what the process is, but again, it's ALWAYS when I try to start the process with little old mousey... :)
