MIDI event commands not working

Post by MDesigner »

I've got a MIDI keyboard with transport buttons on it and I'm trying to bind them to DP's transport.

So I opened the Commands window and found Play and clicked in the MIDI event box. I hit the play button on the MIDI keyboard and I see it record a value. But when I close the Commands window and actually hit the play button, nothing happens. Am I missing a step? Is external MIDI device control disabled or something? The manual doesn't say anything.

If you open the COMMANDS window, notice that there are some "Masters" at the top of the list. Make sure all of those are turned on. See if that sorts it.

Glad that worked, but I want to add something for others trying to do this.

My keyboard sends one MIDI message when I press the play key, and another when I release it. The MIDI message sent when releasing the key was interpreted by DP as Stop. Quite confusing, but once you know this, you can get it right.

Using MIDI Monitor was helpful in this case by showing exactly what was being sent by the keyboard for each key press and release.

Yeah for some reason I can't use the keyboard transport buttons properly. DP's buttons get stuck. So for instance, when I hit stop on the MIDI keyboard, DP's stop button is stuck in the depressed state.

Yes, that's what I saw. I was able to get it to work by looking at what MIDI Monitor said was actually coming from the keyboard as I pressed and released the buttons.

I ran MIDI Monitor. Basically the transport buttons on the MIDI keyboard sends a MIDI signal on keydown but nothing on keyup.
