audio pops on tempo change

Post by Vlacarus »

Here is the issue, if any one has ANY insight into a fix, or what's going wrong....i am all ears.

scenario:
say bars 1 thru 10 are at 80bpm. On bar 11 the tempo changes to 120bpm. Any samples triggered on bar 11 hiccup, pop, or click. If I have a loop start exactly on bar 11 the loop hiccups and it almost seems like it's syncing to the previous tempo.

if i hit play right at bar 11, the samples/loops play back fine. It only glitches when playing through the tempo change.

I am in DP.801, kontakt is hosted in VEPro 5.3.1

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you're not already doing this, create a separate VI instance for EACH VI in use. I know, it sounds crazy on the surface, but what that does is for the OS to use a separate core for each instance. If you have multiple instruments in a single VI instantiation it can put pressure on the CPU.

I am not quite sure I understand your suggestion.
Here is how mine is set up.
for example:
VEPRo server running with about 8 instances minimum in it. Each instance has about the max of 16 different instruments.

Each of those instances are routed to a VI instance in DP.

Are you suggesting I have an VEPro instance for each instrument loaded?

At least for large and highly scripted instruments, yes. It may not solve the problem, but it is the way MOTU suggests it be done. I'll try to find the post for you.

MagicD (one of the top guys at MOTU) liked my description here:

thanks, but there is no way that's happening over here =)

it's kind ofan absurd thing to do when my MIDI templates are huge containing upwards of 300 MIDI tracks.
(mind you all 300 MIDI tracks are not all being used simultaneously)

I appreciate the suggestion, but I highly doubt that CPU is the issue here.

Well, as I said, it's just a suggestion and since there were no responses to your question I thought I;d give it a shot. It might be worth trying but if you would rather continue to get the problem without trying anything well, that's up to you.

and i said I appreciate the suggestion.
in the middle of a feature and I am going to trouble shoot by creating a VEPro instance for each separate instrument in my template. I'm sorry you took offense to me not wanting to try out the suggestion.

best,

Not at all. Just think it's worth trying but certainly not mid project. If I didn't care I wouldn't have responded. I want to see you and DP work as good as it can. The initial suggestion came from MagicD last year. He knows how to make the app fly.

Thanks brother.
In the meantime I think hosting the kontakt instance, housing the loop and instruments that are having pops/glitches, within DP is going to be my temporary fix. It seems to be working. "Seems". :)
