HELP? Adding track assignments to 12 songs

Post by waterstrum »

I have recorded a 12 song project.
Now the artist wants to add a live drum kit to each of the songs.
I'm assuming at least 10 tracks of drums.

I just went through one of the songs and added tracks and assignments.
Lots of clicking and mousing.

Is there any way to easily add these new assignments to the other songs?

Thanks!

It's been a while, but a I think a Clipping should work.

Thanks for that reply.
I'm not sure how to do a clipping of the new assignments and apply that to the other songs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need a Global Clipping window first. If you don't have one create that in menu Project -> Clippings -> New DP Clipping Window. In the Tracks window select the first measure of dead space for all tracks you want to copy together (assuming there's no audio yet). Then menu Edit -> Copy to Clipping Window and pick your Global window. In the sequence you want to copy them in, open the Clipping window from the Window menu if it's not still open and drag the clipping to the empty space in the left panel of the Tracks window.

Wow!
That worked.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Saved me a big slab of time.
Much appreciation.
I suspect there are hundreds of other features in DP that I am clueless about.

Yikes!
Just tried it with the final 10 drum track assignments for the 12 songs.
Now, it crashes DP8.06 when I drag the clipping in.
I tried it several times, but DP just disappears and crashes.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
It worked fine with my test template. (8 drum tracks with all consecutive numbers)

Looks like I've got some major mousing and clicking to do.
Adding and naming and assigning ins and outs to the new tracks.
Session is early today.

One other way you can try is to make the selection like you did for the clip window but then export the selection as a clipping file from the File -> Export menu. Then you can drag it into the Tracks window directly from the Finder. Or try dragging the clipping from the Clipping Window or the Finder to left side of the Sequence window. Maybe something will stick.

Almost a year later, I have a similar situation.

21 songs from different projects all requesting live drums.
None of the songs have drum channels assigned.
I've lined up my favorite drummers and was just about to start adding the multiple tracks to each song for recording... 10 tracks X 21 songs is a lot of clicking and mousing.

Then I revisited this topic....
I tip my hat to NazRat....
This time it worked.
Maybe 8.07 addressed this.

Global clipping copy of the blank tracks opens in each of the songs.
Big sigh of relief.

Gratitude to taRzaN!

Just a thought, water strum.

You might be able to achieve the same thing by:

1) First copying (backing up) the original project... just in case.

2) Opening the TO window for the sequence you've created the tracks for, and then also opening a destination sequence. If it's not a multi-chunk project, just use the "Load" command from the file menu for this and select the relevant chunk from the original project.

3) With both TO windows open, copy the 10 (or however many) tracks from one to the other. I'm guessing that holding down the Command button will duplicate 'em.

No idea whether or not routing and track names would be covered by this. As I said, it was just a thought.
