DP 8 lags

Post by timo »

It records ok but the time/measures don't run smooth during recording or play back. When playing back and trying to mix every command i.e.: fader mover, panning, adding removing plugs causes a spinning wheel for a few seconds. It works perfect on previously recorded tracks from months ago. All other programs on my 2009 macbook pro work fine, 4 gig ram permissions fine. Any help would be appreciated, very perplexing

As often repeated - what is your hardware and software setup ? Most of us list that in our signatures. It helps people on this board suggest solutions if they know what you are using.

What version of OSX are you on?
Is DP8 running in 64-bit or 32-bit mode?

I can tell you right now that you don't have quite enough RAM to be running DP8. And your
computer is a bit old now.

If you're adding or removing plugs during playback, you're going to get a spinning wheel no matter what. That's just not something you can do in DP (I'm not sure about other DAWs) and not expect a hiccup.

As for the fader moves and panning, that shouldn't be causing a problem. I'd be thinking it might have something to do with moving your audio over Ethernet.

I am running 10.9.2
Thanks for the tip I wondered about the ram as my first instinct was it doesn't have enough to do the processing I am asking for, so it gets there but takes a few seconds. Although wouldn't I be having a problem with previously recorded files too?
I was in 64 bit mode when recording the gig on saturday but have switched it on playback to 32 since and it didn't help. I wondered if changing after the fact wouldn't improve the lag since it was already recorded?
