Time Stretching Audio

Post by ritzybiz »

I was hoping for some improvement in DP8 in this regard, but there doesn't seem to be any. DP does still not have real-time stretching of audio, that I know of, and the results when rendered are questionable, whichever settings are used.
There are great real-time algorithms in two other DAWs that I know of which give very good results.
If I am missing any added functionality in DP8, I would love to know it.

Rarely will I use DP for that. MachFive IRCAM stuff does a great job.

You're right MLC, MachFive is good. I also just tried importing audio into Reason while slaved to DP8, and that works a treat when tempo is changed within DP.
Two solutions already!

It works in DP but I prefer the results in MachV.

Ircam TS Lab is my go to when I need time stretch or overall pitch.

Hope it will turn into a (non-realtime) AU plugin instead of the actual stand alone app.

TS Labs will bounce the file. Mach Five needs real time recording.

Thanks, MLC, for bringing light on this.
I don't own, nor need, MF. Well... Maybe, someday, I'll change my mind...

Although Motu should update the time stretch algorithm in DP for people who don't own Mach5(Like me).

cheers

Yea, that time stretch seems to work for single note stuff (which can be awfully handy when editing a single track), but it is hit and miss.

A big +1 on improving that stretch algorithm.

Is there a less expensive stretch option? I use audacity sometimes for some NR or pitch stuff. It's not bad for a free thing. But nothing like IRCAM.

Well maybe it's time to include MachFive or at least IRCAM into DP. Maybe in DP 9 or DP X?

The not less expensive stretch option that I use is Ableton Live. There are 4 or 5 algorithms for time stretching in Live, and it's all nicely tied to the bar and beat. I have Mach Five 3 and honestly I've never tried the time stretching algorithm on anything where I'm needing it to lock to the bar and beat, curious how people are doing that?

I could be crazy
But it just might be a poomatic I'm lookin' for (well, my shorts, that is).

Yes, a poomatic for my soiled shorts. Could use that. Er... MOTU? Hey, MOTU, you there?

It's almost certain that DP9 will include MX4 but not Mach Five 3.
Thread at Gearslutz had a developer say all the major add ons to DP9 have been announced. So what we can expect besides better MIDI controller etc., MX4, new effects, new audio file viewing, etc. etc. is little workflow things, hopefully ones we want! :)
I own Mach Five 3, but I would welcome the combo. The only real advantage of Live's simplistic Sampler is that it saves the samples in the Live project folder with your project. Mach Five 3 with sample sets you do yourself it would be nice if a dialogue popped up asking you if you wanted to save user sampler files in the DP project. 8)
