Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
Since I upgraded to DP8 right when it was released DP8 will ask me if I want to accept incoming network connections every time I launch it and I'm forced to click Accept or Deny before proceeding. Here's the message I get:
Do you want the application "Digital Performer.app" to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences.
DP8 is listed as "allowed" in the Advanced area of the Firewall tab of the Security System Prefs. I even deleted it from here and then hit the + sign to get it listed again.
This never happened with DP7.
Anyone have a solution for me?
Thanks for your help.
Martin

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
Little Snitch is so worth the cost.
Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
I get the same message on my laptop, not on my iMac. AFAIK, the setups are the same. Both have DP 7.24 and DP 8 listed in the firewall settings. I had the same situation in DP 7. I've given up trying to fix it.
(I also have Little Snitch. It looks at outgoing connections.)

SO I set the Little Snitch to always allow access to MOTU and I'm done. The new version of LS (3) looks very nice. Just d/l it. Oh boy, new toy!!!

MLC, in System Preferences>Security>Firewall is your Firewall set to "On"?MIDI Life Crisis wrote:SO I set the Little Snitch to always allow access to MOTU and I'm done. The new version of LS (3) looks very nice. Just d/l it. Oh boy, new toy!!!
Does Little Snitch need this?
I thought I had another solution that I thought was working for me, but just now realized it just turned Firewall "Off" which disabled the "Allow Incoming Network Connections" messages.
Thanks...

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
LS 3 on both of my systems is set to "allow any outgoing connection" to DP 8, and both systems have the firewall set to accept incoming connections to DP 8. Yet, I get the message on one system and not the other.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:SO I set the Little Snitch to always allow access to MOTU and I'm done. The new version of LS (3) looks very nice. Asked and answered, as a lawyer might say. See above. DP is clearly phoning home. There is a crash reporter and there may be some kind of copy protection scheme thing going on to catch pirates.

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
I thought this was for the use of DP Control and other remote surfaces like it on the iPad or other wifi devices. But maybe I'm wrong. I first saw that box after setting up DP Control, and I've used it ever since.
Am I wrong? Is that some other, more sinister sort of network connection? Is the CIA watching my Tracks Overview Window??? Darn, and all this after boarding up my windows and learning to communicate in Latvian pig-Latin.

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
MLC,
My question is why does DP8 KEEP asking? If I give it permission, why does it ask every time it launches. NO OTHER app I use keeps asking after I give it permission.

Is "Check for Updates Automatically" ticked under the DP Help Menu? Try allowing incoming connections for DP in the OSX Firewall advanced menu.

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
OK, I thought maybe you weren't seeing the solutions. So my answer there is: I don't know. Perhaps some preference is not being set correctly?
Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
And, why does it KEEP asking on my laptop, but never asks on my iMac? Firewall and Little Snitch settings are the same on these two.MartinBaird wrote:MLC,

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
DP7 has been asking me this ever since I installed Lion, as does Peak. Perhaps it's a OS 10.7 and 10.8 thing? Doesn't bother me in the least, to be honest.

Re: Incoming Network Connections - DP8 keeps asking
I do think that Little Snitch (linked above) is the solution for most of these issues.
